Burial Did Not Play His First Live Set Last Night, Kode9 Confirms

“Burial has never performed live or DJed, and was not at Unsound.”

October 16, 2015

Last night, music journalist Louis Pattison caused a furore of social media speculation when he tweeted from Polish festival Unsound, "I don't want to alarm anyone but I'm pretty sure this is Burial playing live." The theme of the experimental festival this year is "surprise," and so it seemed plausible that the rainy, ambient set Pattison described—being "played by guy in hoodie on high balcony"—could be the notoriously mysterious producer playing his first ever live show in a salt mine in Poland. Surprise!

But as the rumor took hold of Twitter, the official Hyperdub Twitter account shot down the story with a simple: "No he didn't, must be [Kode9]." In an email to The FADER, Hyperdub label boss Kode9 confirmed: "Burial has never performed live or DJed, was not at Unsound, and has no plans to play anywhere in the future."
