Noname Shares “Freedom Interlude”

“I think this is a song about redemption, or a mother’s intuition...”

April 04, 2016

Chicago rapper and poet Noname, who recently dropped the "Gypsy" from the latter half of her moniker, shared "Freedom Interlude" earlier today via her SoundCloud page. Like her previous work, the song is structured more as a spoken word poem than as a traditional rap song. Noname coasts over a jazzy beat, courtesy of Saba and Phoelix, flowing and stopping to allow the instrumental to the breathe. I know this is a song for overcoming and becoming and me running, she claims before trailing off to allow a snippet of a posthumously released Nina Simone interview to takes over. Listen below.
