"No disrepect," Snoop Dogg begins a new Instagram video which was spotted by Pitchfork, "but I can't watch no motherfucking more black movies where niggas get dogged out. 12 Years A Slave, Roots... I'm sick of this shit."
Snoop's criticism of the classic miniseries's reboot starring T.I. isn't some "slavery happened so long ago, get over it" thing. Rather, his beef is rooted in the belief that the images of slavery in television and movies overwhelm other portrayals of black Americans. "I don't understand America. They just wanna just keep showing the abuse we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago, but guess what? We're taking the same abuse. Think about that part. When are y'all gonna make a motherfucking series about the success that black folks is having?"
He ends the video with a call for contemporary entertainment: "Let's create our own shit based on today, how we live and how we inspire people today."
