A police statement said injuries sustained in the attack "ranged from minor to life-threatening." In addition to the club, one person suffered a minor injury when shots were fired at a home and a nearby vehicle. The area around Club Blu has been deemed safe, though roads toward the venue have been closed. Fort Myers police say they are "seeking to determine a motive" for the shooting.

Three people have been arrested in connection to the attack which comes just six weeks after a gunman killed 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. BBC News has rolling coverage of the story which can be followed for updates.
