At the 2016 Apple Keynote, Nintendo creative fellow Shigeru Miyamoto announced that Super Mario, the legendary video game franchise he created, would be coming to Apple's iOS platform. The first title will be called Super Mario Run, a side-scrolling platformer with players controlling Mario as he runs automatically, avoids obstacles, and collects coins to build a high score, a la Flappy Bird.

Super Mario Run will be released "in time for the 2016 holidays," and will be sold at one set price for the full game, unlike other apps requiring in-app purchases.
