London Will Host A Huge Free Screening Of Iranian Film The Salesman On Oscars Night

Director Asghar Farhadi was caught up in Donald Trump’s travel ban.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has announced plans to host a huge free screening of Oscar-nominated movie The Salesman later this month. The Guardian suggests 10,000 people could attend what will be London's biggest open-air cinema.

The Salesman, which is up for best foreign language film prize at the 2017 Academy Awards, hit the headlines earlier this month following President Trump's travel ban. Under the original terms of the executive order Iran-born director Asghar Farhadi would have been unable to attend the ceremony. Iranian actress Taraneh Alidoosti subsequently announced that she would boycott the awards in protest.

The London screening, which is the U.K. premiere of the film, will take place on Sunday, February 26 in Trafalgar Square and starts at 4.30 p.m. Watch Sadiq Khan's announcement via the tweet at the top of the page.
