Speaking about Labour's unexpected gains in the 2017 general election, Jones said: "If the election has taught us anything, it’s that we cannot take anyone for granted. As Croydon’s Stormzy put so well in one of his songs: 'You’re never too big for the boot.'"

Jones is Croydon's first woman MP and talked about how a surge of young voters helped Labour gain seats in the election. "They have put their faith in democracy in us for the first time," she said of the young voters. "We must not fail them. We must work harder than ever."
