The thriller stars Claire Foy, best known for playing Queen Elizabeth on Netflix's The Crown, as a woman who may or may not have voluntarily committed herself to a mental institution after she may or may not have been stalked by an ever-present lurker, played by an unsettling Joshua Leonard. Juno Temple and Jay Pharoah are also along for the ride.
Soderbergh was inspired to shoot the movie on an iPhone after seeing Sean Baker's excellent Tangerine, and now seems pretty committed to the medium.
"I look at this as potentially one of the most liberating experiences that I’ve ever had as a filmmaker, and that I continue having," he told IndieWire."The gets that I felt moment to moment were so significant that this is, to me, a new chapter."
Unsane is in theaters March 23.
