Sales of Kendrick Lamar's DAMN. have skyrocketed in the wake of his recent Pulitzer Prize, the first such award given to a rapper. According to Billboard, sales of the 2017 album increased by 236 percent in the week following the announcement, 11,000 copies were sold, up from 1,000 the week before. Streaming of the album also got a 25 percent bump.

Lamar is the first non-classical or jazz musician to win the Pulitzer Prize since its inception. The website for the award called it "a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life."
