A photograph of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback and social activist Colin Kaepernick will be featured in a new Nike ad campaign celebrating the 30th anniversary of the "Just Do It" slogan. Kaepernick, who has not played for an NFL team since launching the kneeling protest against African-American inequality in 2016, shared the ad on Monday. It contains the message: "Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything."

Nike signed Kaepernick in 2011, and according to ESPN, have not used him in its campaigns since 2016. "We believe Colin is one of the most inspirational athletes of this generation, who has leveraged the power of sport to help move the world forward," Gino Fisanotti, Nike's North America brand vice president, said in a statement to ESPN.

Kaepernick is currently suing the NFL's owners for colluding to keep him off the field for his political beliefs. The case was permitted to move to trial on Friday.
