It’s that time of year again when the XXL Freshman cyphers begin trickling in. Today’s participants include Rico Nasty, YBN Cordae, and Blueface. Rico, dressed like a villain from the Naruto universe is the obvious standout, dropping a verse that at certain points sounds like an actual freestyle. DJ Scheme even retires the beat when she’s done, giving Cordae and Blueface some different production to work with. The former drops off a lyrical verse packed with imagery regarding love, visions for the future, and rising to the top. Blueface on the other hand, equipped with about 17 pounds of jewelry on his neck, delivers one-liners that will be embedded in my brain for the next couple weeks: “I get paid the most just to do the least.”

Every group cypher gets remembered by a moment or two. Yesterday’s team of DaBaby, Megan Thee Stallion, YK Osiris, and Lil Mosey won’t be recognized so much by the two good verses from Dababy and the Hot Girl herself, but rather the one where we saw Mosey put out maybe the worst freestyle ever delivered in a mink coat. Today’s will go down as the time Rico’s freestyle induced simultaneous woahs from Cordae and Blueface. Watch the video in full below:
