Missy Elliott will receive the 2019 VMAs Video Vanguard Award at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. Finally. She will also perform live at the show, airing Monday, August 26 at 8 p.m. EST.
Bruce Gilmer, Head of Music and Music Talent at MTV International, celebrated Elliott's contributions in a statement: "Missy's impact on the music landscape is indelible. "Her creative vision across production, performance, and songwriting is indelible."

The award is the latest in a recent string of honors for Elliott. This year, she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Berklee College of Music, and inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame. She is currently working on her new album, and shared the song "Tempo" with Lizzo in July.
