Knoxville-via-Brooklyn electronic musician DJ ST THOMAS, aka Pedi Hashemian, has a lot to say. On the 27-minute-long project that’s he’s calling an EP (nobody tell Kanye), MATRIMONY, his songs flow and slide from chillwave to poppy funk, breakbeats, and hauntological R&B. And wouldn’t you want to — ASAP! — if you were making an album while preoccupied by the impermanence of all things?

“While writing the EP I was navigating relationships with partners, friends, family, and even my relationship to making music. All of these relationships have, at some point or another, felt transitory despite their permanent nature,” Hashemian says. “I think this feeling of transience has evolved in the age of the internet. The abundance of ‘connection’ that the internet can afford, in a way, decreases the value of relationships. Should I put in the time and energy required to make it work? Or, should I just move on to the next person or the next hobby because that’s easier?"
