Get ready for what is after After Hours.

The Weeknd may have dominated 2020 with his album After Hours spawning monster hits including "Blinding Lights" and "Save Your Tears" but Abel Tesfaye isn't going to bask in the glory. On Sunday night, August 1, he ushered in the next era of music via a two minute preview of upcoming material. “Fuck it … IT STARTS TONIGHT,” he tweeted before sharing a video titled “The Dawn Is Coming.” While not a new song, per se, the video acts as a preview of what is to come.

Speaking in a new GQ cover story published on Monday, The Weeknd confirms a new project is on the way and states, simply, “It’s the album I’ve always wanted to make.”

The Weeknd previously claimed "the dawn is coming" during a speech at the 2021 Billboard Awards. He has performed at a number of awards ceremonies in the past year, though not at The Grammys which he infamously boycotted last year. The Weeknd's After Hours era arguably culminated with his spectacular Super Bowl performance in February.
