Deyaz is a 21-year-old musician and producer from east London who has spent his youth submerged in the U.K. underground scene, playing drums in punk bands and producing rap tracks along the way. Now, however, he's focused on his solo material and "Helpless" is his debut effort. Big hooks and delicate acoustic guitars give the song a pop feel but there's a loss of power that lurks beneath the surface, something the young artist can't do anything to stop.
"Why are you changing up on me?" he pleads over the depectively upbeat tune. "Like I knew you could, never thought you would." Digging into feelings of intimacy and self-care, Deyaz reveals himself to be both tender and introspective while still outward looking enough to project the confidence needed for a memorable tune.
Speaking to The FADER, Deyaz said of the song: "'Helpless' is about giving your all in a relationship, but the insecurities that come alongside make you neglect yourself in the process."
