A technological malfunction forced Harry Styles’ dancers to perform their “As It Was” routine at the 65th annual Grammy Awards in reverse Sunday night, some of them revealed Monday on social media. Per their posts, which came in response to online criticism that the performance had been lackluster, the issue occurred when their rotating “turntable” stage began spinning in reverse, forcing them to improvise.

“12 of us were on the turntable and we rehearsed for 10 days getting down these beautiful formations and sliding off the turntable… and Harry did such a good job integrating into it and had a beautiful duet,” choreographer Dexter Da Rocha explained in a since-deleted TikTok picked up by Variety Monday evening. “There was nothing we could do to stop it,” dancer Brandon Mathis said in an expired Instagram story. Later Sunday night, Styles would go on to win Album of the Year for his 2022 project, Harry’s House, beating out ABBA, Adele, Bad Bunny, Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Coldplay, Kendrick Lamar, and Lizzo for the night’s top prize.
