The Tripwire Music Nation Pick Of The Week

This week’s selection goes to Vanity Band, the moniker chosen by Green Bay, Wisconsin-born and bred singer/songwriter Joel Nass. There were a lot more polished videos to choose, mostly from bands from New York or LA, but we decided to go with sensitive indie rock from Green Bay, because, well… who the hell is from Green Bay? This kid has probably spent his whole life getting his ass kicked by cheese heads, which apparently helped him write songs about running away and leaving your shitty hometown with your sweetheart. So I guess it all worked out for the best. read more »

The Tripwire Music Nation Pick Of The Week

Los Angeles’ Wintergreen is this week’s Tripwire Music Nation Pick Of The Week. Not only does their video feature old school Atari games and 8 bit graphics, but our resident music genius Robert English included this very same song on our most recent edition of the Tripwire Podcast (.025). read more »

The Tripwire Music Nation Pick Of The Week

Atlanta-based trio Dropsonic take home this week’s Tripwire Music Nation Pick Of The Week for their song/video “Everyone’s A Stranger.” The song rocks and the video is super low budget, but the spliced in stock footage is done really well and makes for an interesting watch/listen. I did some research on these by dropping their name to some VERY trustworthy and “in the know” music types around the Atlanta area and it turns out they come highly recommended. Looks like these unsigned rock dudes just might be goin’ places. Check out the video below and go vote for it on Music Nation. We have an MP3 for you too (of course). read more »

Download – Tigercity "Other Girls"

Brooklyn’s Tigercity is one of our favorite new unsigned bands and with influences ranging from Prince to Steely Dan to Hall & Oats to Kraftwerk, who can blame us. This talented young quartet were so happily surprised when we posted their banging soon-to-be-hit song “Are You Sensation” a few months ago, that they sent us an MP3 of a BRAND NEW song they finished mixing just days before heading to SXSW. It’s called “Other Girls” and you can download its smooth, synthtastic pop goodness for yourself below. read more »

SXSW Checklist 2007

I’m headed down to Austin this afternoon and already I’m freaking out that I’ve forgotten something. Did I pack my phone charger? My iPod? Extra contacts? Toothpaste? Registration info? Etc etc… There’s SO MUCH to prepare for, so if you find yourself slightly spazzing out like did, you’ll be glad to know that some anal retentive dude has already put together a master checklist for SXSW 2007. It reminds you of everything from your digital camera and extra memory stick to Chapstick and Claritin. read more »

Kings Of Leon Announce First Leg Of Spring Tour

It’s no secret that we at The Tripwire (myself especially) are BIG fans of Kings Of Leon. With their new album, Because Of The Times, out April 3, the Followills have lined up a string of spring dates in support of its release. They’re kicking things of in a big way too, with a performance at this year’s Coachella. But before that, they’ll be stopping by Letterman on March 26, then just one day before their tour launch, they’ll be visiting plump, car collecting (not really) funnyman Jay Leno. read more »

Video – Aqualung "Pressure Suit" (Behind The Scenes)

Matt Hales (a.k.a. Aqualung) will drop his second major label release tomorrow, March 13, in the form of Memory Man (read our review of the album here). Our own Erin Chandler called the album “cinematic and grandiose,” which is more than evident on first single “Pressure Suit.” read more »
