Christmas On Mars

Much like Chinese Democracy this film has been the talk of the music world for far too long. With the production starting in 2001 one would suspect that the end product would either be at a caliber of greatness or trash that just too damn long to finish. If both those outcomes were cities with an intestate between them, this production took the first exit off and never got back on. read more »

Live – Obama Victory Rally @ Grant Park | Chicago

The rally was a piece of history I will never forget and I think it will only grow in importance as I get older. We left feeling excited about the results and eager for inauguration day. With so much going on its hard to determine what exactly impacted me most. read more »

Secret Machines

I awoke in my penthouse condo with receipts form contracts apparently signed by myself. These machines would see production on my account whether I remembered or not. We can only hope they are used for good, instead of evil. I can’t say this will be the same for you, but that is how it happened for me. read more »

Here We Stand

Plopping down at The Salty Pub in a generic fishing village on the coast of England, I ordered up a pint of bitters and stretched a yawn. The chaps on stage, going by The Fratellis, lit in with soundtrack for this evening. “My Friend John” was three sheets next to me and inquired, “If you were a ship, what ship would you be?” Without hesitanc read more »

Fictitious Business

There was a open box car and we were eight states away from the west coast. Hopping in to what we assumed was the lulling of the steel wheels on the tracks a surprise was had when Death to Anders was sitting along the back of the wall caressing music from their instruments read more »

We Appreciate You

The in-store performance dubbed them as a pop-fusion band that had a Minneapolis sensibility. Not to much on their side when I walk in, but a flogo catchiness made me “Stay That Way.” Sadly the titles were catchier than the tunes read more »

Street Horrrsing

I biked my way down a vacant road to a delight that was being held in a cave many centuries older than my ancestors had been in the vicinity of this country. Come to find out the host group, was not from this country. Approaching the entrance to the cave I heard loud repercussions read more »

][

We were holed up in a squat in the industrial part of town. However as squats go, this was what the Box-Car Children were busting their ass to achieve. Music of choice is Pretendo. The first two cuts make me think that this is going to be a pretty straightforward indie pop night. Soon the booze and drugs that make the absence of hot water tolerable read more »

Causes 1

I found myself at another benefit for Oxfam, Darfur, and friends that were dubbed Causes. On the auction block were fourteen tracks from well-respected Dukes of the independent music scene. I crowded in a low-key coffee bar and registered my number for the bidding. First to be sold was a noise epic (9:24) “Safer” from the Animal Collective. It was soon evident that the goods to be sold were mostly for mantle piece than for iPod read more »
