HEALTH And Oakeater @ AV-aerie | Chicago

Kids must be drinking Nyquil instead of Boone’s Farm to pregame for shows these days. The delicious Mountain Berry flavor is nearly the same color as the “nighttime, sniffling, sneezing, coughing, best sleep you ever got with a cold medicine” — a very easy mistake to make. This can be the only explanation for the lethargic and apathetic crowd at HEALTH’s sleepy midweek show at the cozy AV-aerie. read more »

Photos – M83 & School Of Seven Bells @ Webster Hall | NYC

M83 and School of Seven Bells played some spaced out intense sets at a sold out Webster Hall this past Friday. The most recent M83 and SSB albums–Saturdays=Youth and Alpinisms respectively–have landed them on most critics album of the year lists and led to sold out shows across the country. Limbo, Panto

A good amount of today’s contemporary bands have lost the battle in finding their voice through the framework of their influences (especially groups influenced by the 80s). The bands that avoid this pitfall takes the sound, works it, flips it, turns it upside down, and adds their thread. With Limbo, Panto Wild Beasts have created an album that relies on their influences but stands as something that is uniquely theirs. read more »

Photos – Fun Fun Fun Fest Day 1

Named for the Big Boys song and not the Beach Boys’, the punk-rock leaning music festival with a more reasonable ticket price than the “other Austin music festivals” kicked off it’s third installment last Friday in Austin’s Waterloo Park. In a twist of irony, arguably the biggest name on the bill was our On The Cover feature artist from two weeks ago, Bad Brains, who once had an infamous run-in with Big Boys lead singer Randy Turner. But the rest of the bill was just as strong, featuring some of our favorite touring and local TX acts. Thankfully, our resident expert Austin photographer Daniel Perlaky made sure to show us the fun, fun, fun we missed. read more »
