So Santa Internet emailed us today with the good news that there’s a cool lil' art show entitled “You Are Here” which happens to be “opening” March 1st—courtesy of our buddies at the Graphic Havoc’s GHava Center for the Arts. It features work from art bros Andre Razo, J Penry, Cheryl Dunn, Patrick O'Dell (whose apropos photo is above) and Rostarr. We were totally stoked to check out the show and then realized that the whole burrito is taking place, uhm, virtually, on something called Second Life. The email describes this thing as a “metaverse,” which is either a really long poem—like Beowulf—or maybe the Universe for Overachievers, and either way it scares us. All of a sudden we were being asked to opt-in for weird dog-human avatars and choosing our username from a pull down menu (say hello to the Yoshikawas!). Then we had to download applications and pat our stomach and chew gum at the same time and we still couldn’t log onto the metaverse. Internet: Let us in! Maybe one day we will Understand the Net, but until then, the onus is on you, humanoid keystrokers of the universe. Go forth and prosper.
