FADER TV: On the Road with Bacardi B-LIVE, Episode 14 – Louisville

Bacardi B-LIVE 2009 took a moment to pay homage to the King of Pop when the news broke last Thursday in Louisville, Kentucky. MSTRKRFT and Z-TRIP were spinning heavy on some commemorative MJ beats for the crowd. But DJ’ing isn’t all fun and games, as Z-TRIP will tell you in our latest episode of On the Road with Bacardi B-LIVE. It’s hard work, and quick decisions, and it gets sad when you’re playing an amazing song by someone who has just passed away. But don’t let it get you down! Stay tuned for more episodes from future dates along the way including interviews, live performances and who knows what else only on FADER TV.

It’s been a minute since we just sat back and enjoyed the energy-rock stylings of FADER Label’s Matt & Kim on the Bacardi B-LIVE 2009, so when the duo rejoined the party train in the nation’s capital recently, we just pointed and shot and it turned out pretty good. FADER TV: On the Road with Bacardi B-LIVE, Episode 12 – Philly

As Bacardi B-Live 2009 rolled into Philly, it wisely added that city’s most storied DJ, Diplo, and his infamous UK Major Lazer partner, Switch, to the bill. Coincidentally, these dudes are also on the cover of The FADER’s brand new issue. We interviewed them issue and it is a great read. Such a great read that we decided to interview them again for FADER TV. Maybe we’ll interview them again next week. And the week after that. There is only one way to find out and that is to continue checking for these videos every Monday, Wednesday and Friday right here. Nice suits, dudes!

Bacardi B-LIVE 2009 and Beantown came together for some unBelievably Bonkers Bananatownery recently, so of course we hit up Best Beatjuggler under the Big Blue Sky… oh, it’s A-Trak, sorry about that, thought it was a B thing. Anyway! Dude is still nice with it! He blogs excellently for FADER and is one of the nicest dudes we know. So of course as soon as we had the chance we caught up with him to talk about his progression as a DJ and his globetrotting prowess. FADER TV: On the Road with Bacardi B-LIVE, Episode 7 – Milwaukee

After the anti-hip hop debacle in Kansas City, some people might have pulled the plug on rap to ease venue tensions. Bacardi B-LIVE 2009 rolled on to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and headlined the next show with Q-Tip, and as you’ll see in the video above, there were no problems. Imagine that! FADER TV: On the Road with Bacardi B-LIVE, Episode 6 — The Jazzy Jeff Incident!

We hinted at it in the post for the last episode, but here is the actual video from Bacardi B-LIVE 2009’s stop in Kansas City, where Jazzy Jeff was forced offstage by the venue for playing hip hop. We don’t want to jump to any conclusions here, but everyone in American has seen The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, right? Maybe not. Regardless, Z-Trip was bummed, Jeff was bummed, Skillz got totally thrown out of the club—it was enough melodrama for the Huffington Post! FADER TV: On the Road with Bacardi B-LIVE, Episode 5

Following along on with Bacardi B-LIVE 2009 for 23 weeks, we’re almost guaranteed to get some meta-commentary on the videos and posts from the artists playing the shows, but this is better than we expected. In the write up of the last episode, we said that Skillz, who’s on the road handling the crowd with Jazzy Jeff, was the Ralph Macchio of hip hop, and then half qualified as a possible non sequitur. We were rolling with a theme. In this episode, which stops in Phoenix and Denver, Skillz seems to not know whether to take that as a compliment or insult. Rest assured it was a compliment. Karate Kid, The Outsiders and My Cousin Vinny all shaped our perception of the world in some way, and Skillz’ annual “Rap Up”’s sort of did, too. Okay, so it didn’t make sense. Welcome to TheFADER.com! Stay tuned for more episodes from future dates along the way including interviews, live performances and Jazzy Jeff’s recent brouhaha in Kansas City only on FADER TV.

FADER TV: On the Road with Bacardi B-LIVE, Episode 4

For years and years, we’ve made it a practice to defend Los Angeleans, to counter the cliché of them being a vast army of space cadets and complete boobs. We’re like, “Hey Bret Easton Ellis was born in LA, and he’s written books. With words in them! He’s gotta be smart.” So it’s disheartening, at least as people who write words about music and love LA, when one of these dear Lost Angels, a confessed lover of dance music and Tiga, does not know who “the guy before Tiga” at the most recent stop on Bacardi B-LIVE 2009 was. JAMES MURPHY, DUDE. THE GUY BEFORE TIGA WAS JAMES MURPHY. (sigh) Anyway, he seems like a nice kid, regardless, so we’ll let it slide this time and just remind everyone stay tuned for more episodes from future dates along the way including interviews, live performances and who knows what else only on FADER TV.
