Freeload: Stag & Dagger Festival MP3 Bonanza

In our newest issue—available on paper or magic PDF paper—we chose Micachu & The Shapes to represent cover icon David Byrne’s tendency to be in the thick of things yet totally out of it. Cool, yet not cool. Micachu is right in the middle of the UK pop scene but is nowhere near anyone else, as you can hear on this cover of Toddla T’s “Backchatter” with Miss Bienek. Micachu will be playing Vice’s gigantic UK festival Stag & Dagger this Thursday at the London venue, and subsequent days will host every other band we’ve liked over the last year or so. So, go buckwild on free songs from a few of our favorites from the lineup and pick up Stag & Dagger tickets here.

We always suspected that the Black Lips‘ whole thing where they spit in each other’s mouths and get wasted on stage was actually just an act and that secretly the band was really wholesome and liked doing family activities and spending Christmas together. Never mind the fact that there are a bunch of scenes involving a clown ruining a birthday party (creepy), and that the general concept of a group of grown men prancing around like children is also a little weird, we’re sticking with our Wholesome Black Lips hypothesis from here on out—or until we next see them live. 200 Million Thousand is in stores right now.

This isn’t official or anything but it reminds us of the stories we used to hear about Liverpool fans wearing opponents’ jerseys during Liverpool’s away games, sneaking into the home section and beating the daylights out of fans in their own stadiums. And that’s how we feel when Black Lips comes to town, which if you’re in Europe, is right now, or if you’re going to Coachella, is next Friday. FADER/Southern Comfort 7″ Series #3: Magnificent Seven

Artwork by Andrew Jeffrey Wright

It’s that time again: team FADER got with Southern Comfort to color your world with a new limited edition FADER/Southern Comfort 7″. ATL faves Black Lips stunned us with their Twilite Zoned intro to “Wild Man” on side a, and P-town fave YACHT succinctly spelled out his “No Favors Policy” on the b-side (think grunge, folks!). Philly artist Andrew Jeffrey Wright designed a wavy gravy illustration to bring it all home. Sensory overload—and more proof that we love you! We have a handful to give away to lucky blog readers, just email contests@thefader.com, put “seven” in the subject line somewhere, and we’ll select winners at random.
