Freeload: Bleszt, Nine 7 Three Mixtape
- story THE FADER
You may remember New Jersey’s Brick Bandits crew from such Wu-Tang-inducing engagements as our F60 issue release party or The FADER Fort in Texas, or maybe even the time we went to
Mike V’s house and kicked it. Basically, we fucks with them, and now that the Bandit’s
Tim Dolla is cosigning an artist, we shall fucks with him too.
Bleszt, or “Mr. Brick Bandit” if his myspace is to be believed, is also from Newark and just humble as the rest of the gang (his name is Bleszt for goodness sakes). His Nine 7 Three tape plays like a Brick Bandits party, spanning pop instrumentals, original songs and the Bandits refined Jersey club we’ve come to know and freak out to.

We don’t know who Fortune is, but we know who Sega is: He’s the guy who makes us want to knock muhfuckers out like we were an aspiring female poet and the muhfuckers were Charles Hamilton. And that’s not an easy thing to do when you’re remixing random French disco rock, please believe.

Freeload: Rob Threezy, “The Change Up” MP3
- story THE FADER
Chi-city trunk thumper RobThreezy (of Ghetto Division/Brick Bandits fame) has tossed his regular jukey/housey/clubby stylee and gone full-frontal rave on this bonkers synth mix for Nightshifters. By full frontal rave, we mean that by the third movement you will be boobs-out with glowsticks contemplating the meaning of love. It’s also called “The Change Up” because there are like 15 different parts to this—DJs can play it in basically any set possible and it will match. Drum n bass jams? Great! This single was also remixed by fellow Brick Banditian DJ Sega, France’s MikIX and JOTS (you can hear their version on their goth dudes mixtape).

FADER TV: Brick Bandits Throw An Impromptu House Party
- story THE FADER
Just after New Year’s, the Brick Bandits Crew invited us out to their Union, New Jersey headquarters, which also happens to be the homequarters of Brick Bandits CEO Mike V. It wasn’t technically a party, but with members spanning Jersey, Philly and even Chicago, jams got played, Chinese food got consumed, and new steps got freaked. At one point all twenty-something members worked on one beat in front of us. We also got a preview of DJ Tim Dolla’s “We Are Your Friends” remix which more or less murdered our F60 issue release party.
Freeload: Chris Cornell f. Timbaland, “Part of Me (Brick Bandits House Remix)”
- story THE FADER
The pairing of Mr. Soundgarden and Jersey club massive Brick Bandits was a union our neighborhood psychic totally forgot to tell us about. But upon listening to their collective handiwork, we had a revelation. Chris Cornell: epitome of soulful house vocalist. Why did no one think of this before? His effusive delivery is a house no-brainer! He can imply inner suffering with the flick of the tongue or a guttural wail! We would now like to dress him up in a little bicyclist hat, some Doc Martens, hot pants and a t-shirt by Boy London in size medium. Hit up Mad Decent for Brick Bandits’s club and techno remixes of the aforementioned song.

Freeload: Kontinental Gangstas’ Juke Mix
- story THE FADER
We’ve been feeling deep lust for the Brick Bandits’ massive collective take on Jersey club music and bangin regional dancefloor genres from other far-flung locales, and we are also impressed that a crew that makes the Wu-Tang look like an intimate family gathering can stay so focused, period. Prolific, though? Not a problem. This particular gem is a juke jumpoff from D-51 and Charlie Glitch, of Chi-city’s Ghetto Division and Brick Bandits respectively. Collectively they are known as Kontinental Gangstas. They are serious about their AKAs and getting you, the collective dancefloor, to percolate, and the whole thing bangs but we are particularly stuck on the contemplative pianos and hyperspeed rhythms of Leatherface’s “Loving Memory” segueing into “All the Hoes.” Tracklist at Mad Decent.

Freeload: Mike V (Brick Bandits), “Feelings”
- story THE FADER
One thing about Mad Decent, everytime you think they may have reached the end of their reign as club kings, they come up with some new thing that crushes your will to resist. The most recent (mad recent) is this Mike V song they put up yesterday from the new Brick Bandits EP on Old Head Records, Dirty South Joe’s Mad Decent subsidiary. The EP collects six tracks from DJs Sega, B-Stee, Tim Dolla, Tameil and Mike V, all from the New Jersey post-B’more crew, all wildly different, and all absolutely, ridiculously good. The mp3 of “Feelings” is only 128kbps, so make sure to go pick up either the high-quality digital copy over at Turntable Lab or the heavyweight vinyl at the Mad Decent store.
**Also, for more Brick Bandits, subscribe to the Mad Decent podcast to hear Dirty South Joe’s new mix of Bandits jawns.
