Freeload: BLK JKS, “Molalatladi” MP3

Since putting them on the cover of FADER #52, we have seen BLK JKS perform “Molalatladi” about 50 times, and every single time they manage to get the crowd chanting along whether they ask for it or not. These are some jaded New Yorkers we’re talking about, so you know they must be doing something right. BLK JKS recently signed to Secretly Canadian and will put out their debut album After Robots on September 8th and continue to jam out shows all over the place, including an upcoming date in Brooklyn on July 5th with fellow FADER cover star Cody Chesnutt, who somehow has still managed to not put out the greatest rock album in history despite our wishes.

Freeload: Cody ChesnuTT, “AfrObama”

The last paragraph of former FADER editor-in-chief Knox Robinson’s “West Coast Negrock & Roll” feature from FADER 12, which includes a lengthy segment on the ever-elusive Cody ChesnuTT, contains a sentence that could easily apply to Barack: “Their ability to withstand the pressure with which they will be faced, or the cunning they will need to adapt its commercial power to their creative needs, seems likely to soon undergo the severest of tests.” In other words, it’s going to be a long, hot summer for BHO, but long, hot summers usually produce the best stories. Obviously, we love great stories, and though our hopes for the artists in that feature didn’t exactly pan out, we haven’t given up on Mr ChesnuTT. So it’s particularly outstanding to get him doing some Fela-like jamming for his candidate of choice three days before the official solstice. As it turns out, the Obama-inspired mixtape developing onthisblog is getting to be real serious, so keep ‘em coming. To get the Obama-snippet version of “AfrObama” go to Cody’s MySpace.
