Vybz Kartel, “Yeah Though I Walk” MP3
Vybz is looking deep into his interior life to describe his day-to-day on this compelling track, reciting the 23rd Psalm and sounding as mournful as he ever has. “Yeah Though I Walk” comes from his 22-track album Pon di Gaza, which he wrote last summer during a particularly down time in his life. And now that it’s out, Hot97 playing “Ramping Shop” on heavy rotation nine months after the fact finally begins to make sense!

Jahdan Blakkamoore, Bazooka Shot Mixtape
- story Sam Hockley-Smith
We’d like to think that if this was 2004, people would be going nuts and spending actual dollars on this mix like it was Piracy Funds Terrorism (did people spend money on that?). It doesn’t have the same balls to the wall range, but it does have balls to the wall bass and dancehall experimenters taking the Busy Signal route and voicing over just about anything the Dutty Artz crew can think of. Jahdan Blakkamoore doesn’t get quite as weird as Busy on any of these tracks, but he does get on a couple well known instrumentals (and Joker’s “Digidesign”) as well as a bunch of songs with laser noises. Less heavy than his upcoming Buzzrock Warior, but the perfect way to ride out the rest of your Summer.

Freeload: Terry Lynn, “Jamaican Girls” (prod Johan of Radioclit) MP3
- story THE FADER
Terry Lynn, responsible for one of the grimiest videos of 2008, has joined up with Johan Hugo of Radioclit/The Very Best to make this new track from the forthcoming free digital EP called It Was Written. The five songs on the EP, presented by Red Stripe Beer, “celebrate the worldwide influence of Jamaican music,” something we have been celebrating at FADER for over 10 years now. You’ll be able to get the full EP on Monday, June 15th, at www.thefader.com/redstripe, but enough with the formalities! This song is way more fun than one might expect from Lynn, who last we saw her, if our memory serves correct, was pointing a giant gun at us in a video. Here’s to finding time in your busy schedule to appreciate your womanhood!

Video: Major Lazer f. Andy Milonakis “Zumbie”
- story THE FADER
If you had any lingering doubts that the upcoming Major Lazer album Guns Don’t Kill People Lazers Do (Downtown, June 16th) was going to turn dancehall even crazier than it already was, here is the absurd video for “Zumbie” with “Let Me Twitter Dat” maestro Andy Milonakis auto-tuned and chomping brains, pum pum and Ruffles and sounding like Mr Vegas with a lot more time on his hands.
FADER TV: Sean Paul at Federation Sound 10th Anniversary Party
- story THE FADER
We attended the Sunglass Hut/Business Class-hosted Federation Sound 10th birthday last night at Santos Party House and to be totally honest it is really difficult to form complete sentences right now. Santos was jammed and there was much gully creeping and sweeping (and drinking). Chino, Laden, 77Klash, Jahdan and TNT all performed—TNT, we will wife you anytime btw—but everyone was there to see Sean Paul. He, of course, did not disappoint, and we’ve got a little FADER TV footage to prove it with SEANUH PAL doing “Gimme the Light,” “Like Glue” and “Get Busy” in the same order they appeared on his classic Dutty Rock album. This happened around three or four in the morning and we had to fight with some crazy Japanese girls to get this angle so we really hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Video/Freeload: Vybz Kartel f. Indu, “Virginity”/”Versatility” MP3
- story THE FADER
Whenever you hear Vybz go Beeeahbee! you know it’s gonna be some romance, which this apparent follow-up to the NY-ubiquitous “Ramping Shop” definitely is, but be careful which version you listen to in front of your mom/boss/priest/whatever. Vybz clearly recorded “Versatility” to meet Jamaican radio standards because the title doesn’t even make sense, so if you need to know what he really really means, watch the above video of the alternate “Virginity.” (video via Smarten Up Nas)

Freeload: Two Mixtapes Killed by Assassin
- story THE FADER
In FADER #60, we positioned Assassin as dancehall’s perpetual next big thing, calling him the “permanent underdog.” And while he still hasn’t reached the worldwide status of a dude like Mavado, these two mixtapes, from Boardhouse Production and mixed by Xynk Fence Soundsystem, should prove that he at least deserves to. We’d recommend you assess your current mood before deciding which one to listen to first—one drop for easy vibes, dancehall if you want to wine pon your Aeron. Or you can shuffle them up and just marvel at the sandstorm that is Assassin’s voice.

Ghetto Palms: Skull Riddim / Erup Video Premiere / Eddie STATS on Seen
- story Eddie "Stats" Houghton
Every week resident FADER selector Eddie STATS runs through dancehall riddims and other artifacts from the ghetto archipelago.
The big news first: the main focus of my energy for this week’s column was scheming (?like finagling except more conniving) to land an exclusive chance to premiere the new video for Erup’s “Click Mi Finger” here on Ghetto Palms. If by chance you came late, “Click” is a track that was recorded by an unknown deejay at a studio housed in the back of a container truck parked in a lot somewhere in New Kingston back in 2007. By New Year’s of that year it had torn down enough fences around Jamaica that people were nominating the Gearbox as “Riddim of the Year.” I can count myself among a small handful of deejays who broke the track in New York when I debuted it here last March, and a summer of heavy rotation on Hot 97 later, it entered the Billboard Hot 100 in November 2008. Now a full two years on, it is finally ready to premiere in a form that MTV and BET can understand and just in time for three important things: 1) another summer 2) an Erup album project with Truckback Records guaranteed to spawn: 3) follow up 45s like “Mek Noise” which can carry us through the hot weather again.
Video Premiere: Erup, “Click Mi Finger”
- story THE FADER
FADER is proud to present the World Premiere of “Click Mi Finger” from Kingston’s star in the making Erup. “Click Mi Finger” has quickly risen to mainstream prominence with the support of our very own Eddie STATS and you can read all about Erup in the latest issue of FADER Magazine, on newsstands right now. Many many thanks to Truckback Records for the premiere opportunity, and make sure to read the latest installment of Ghetto Palms, including STATS’ words on this man and this video. Now get on the road, people!
Freeload: Federation Sound Mad Decent Radio Mix
- story THE FADER
Just as we were lulling into post-lunch Siestaville at FADER HQ, we popped this mix into the laptop and WE ARE NOW AWAKE. We also just knocked an intern out with a spinning roundhouse Sweep move. Federation Soundbwoy Kenny Meez does some murderous things to the Hot 97 top ten before getting straight into dubplates. So good. Get the tracklist at Mad Decent.
