The Dead Weather, “Treat Me Like Your Mother” (Diplo Remix) MP3

Coming soon on a list of collaborations that probably don’t need to exist but are surprisingly fruitful, if only for the mindgarden effect: Milli Vanilli covers Vampire Weekend, the entire cast of Superbad in a music video for Antony and the Johnsons, Will Oldham remixed by Santogold while wearing each other’s clothes. And, for one that somehow happened, Diplo, our current cover star for some reason, has remixed The Dead Weather, our current favorite supergroup. “Treat Me Like Your Mother,” which has the ring of a filthy song Diplo may have played at some point (and maybe was a runner-up for the name of the Major Lazer album), has been reworked into a total wheezing mess of ideas and bounce. This is like listening to four songs at the same time but only listening with one ear.
Live: Dead Weather Play a Small Dark Room for the Privileged Few
- story THE FADER
Midday yesterday, Dead Weather aka Jack White and Alison Mosshart and two other less famous though still valuable folks, played a pop-up shop on Chrystie Street in Manhattan. We sent our eyes and ears to the streets, photographer Sunny Shokrae and intern extraordinaire Natalia Ciolko, out to report. More of Sunny’s photos and Natalia’s take on the wild scene the are after the jump.

Stream: The Dead Weather, Horehound LP
- story Peter Macia
In our current summer music issue, we concocted a line graph of supergroups gone wrong, and suggested The Dead Weather, comprised of Jack White (White Stripes), Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs), might be an exception to the rule. We didn’t base this solely on their collective hair, but on their new album Horehound, out July 14th, which, contrary to the complacent non-jams on most supergroup albums, makes it sound like being a gigantic rock star is the most aggravating job in the world. We know for a fact that manual labor is more aggravating, but Horehound is still awesome. Hear it right now in its entirety for 24 hours on The Internet.

Live: Dead Weather (Featuring Famous People) at Bowery Ballroom
- story THE FADER
Last night at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom was the live debut of Jack White and Alison Mosshart’s Dead Weather. On some personal shit, FADER editor Matthew Schnipper had to bail out of his spot to see the show last minute. Wanting to cover it, we tried to switch the name on the guest list to Dean Bein—proprietor of True Panther Sounds, occasional online Interview contributor and general tastemaker—but it was too late to change the name. However, a helpful publicist suggested that Dean borrow Schnipper’s ID and try to swindle his way in. Being kinda vaguely Jewish looking guys, it worked. Read about the incredible caper, and the show, via IM interview between the two after the jump.
