Premiere: DJ Ayres, Nick Catchdubs and Jubilee, “Flashing Lights Mix v. 4″ x NYC Party Info

Ayres, Catch and Jubilee are having the first installment of their glowsticky NYC monthly since Studio B shuttered its doors, and while we are sad about that closure, the train ride from our office-crib to their new venue 88 Palace (88 East Broadway) is way easier than trying to hike to Greenpoint’s industrial wilds (sorry dudes, if it makes you feel any better we didn’t see our cousin for like a year just cause he lived in Queens). If you’ve never been to Flashing Lights, Friday August 14 is the time to do it: not only will the resident trio drop their regular melange of synth rattlers, twerky house and subbass bombxplosions, they’re hosting guest stars Toadally Krossed Out’s NYC debut, which is marked on our calendars with little lightning bolts pointing to it, because these dudes go OD hard (heteropause) on every track they’ve dropped so far (including the exclusive that kicks off Ayres’ portion of this mix). AND it’s Jess Jubilee’s bday AND her single release with Nightshifters mega raver Udachi—so if you have any interest in dance music, fun, nature sounds, epic parties, amphibious rave music (raves on both water and land), sweaty drunk dudes taking their shirts off and/or blowing out your own synapses you should probably hit this up. Cop the Flashing Lights Mix v. 4 and tracklist here for a preview, flyer after the jump.

Freeload: DJ Ayres’ Michael Jackson Mix MP3
- story THE FADER
Since you are now concurrently overwhelmed by and fiending for a refresher course/memory wax on the dearly departed King of Pop, you should revisit the Michael Jackson mix DJ Ayres made for Brooklyn radio last year. It spans Jackson’s whole musical life, which essentially began when he was a little badass baby. Literally no kid star will ever be that talented. It’s chronological, from “I Wanna Be Where You Are” to “I Can’t Help It,” “Say Say Say” to “Remember the Time” to “Butterflies.” Rest in peace to a genius.

- story THE FADER
We cannot recall how many times the members of the Flashing Lights triumvirate—Nick Catchdubs, Jubilee and DJ Ayres—have individually housed us with impeccably selected dance jams* until we are facedown on the dancefloor then someone puts our hand in water so we pee. TOO MANY TIMES, LET’S DO IT AGAIN. This Friday, their Brooklyn monthly hosts DJ Lindsey (so many FADER alumni!) plus the live, real-life United States debut of Kitsuné wunderkind LaRoux! To prep you for the dance-off and assist you in physical endurance building, they have crafted this excellent mix of big-room jammers. Watch out for Jubilee’s bass bombs in the middle, that Blackfinger track plus an impromptu goofyfoot Stanky Legg just made us trip over a mail crate.

A Rational Conversation Between Two Adults: House R&B
- story THE FADER
Every Tuesday, FADER deputy editor Eric Ducker gets on instant messenger and “discusses” a subject that’s been on his mind with another member of our staff or a special guest. After the jump, read his condensed (and emoticon-free) conversation with DJ Ayres about R&B’s current use of house music sonics in its uptempo sound and the roots of this trend. (For reference see: Chris Brown’s “Forever,” Rihanna’s “Please Don’t Stop the Music,” Ne-Yo’s “Closer,” Akon’s “Right Now,” etc.)
Freeload: DJ Ayres’ Best of Young Jeezy Mix
- story THE FADER
FADER-fam DJ Ayres put together a career-spanning mix of Young Jeezy highlights for the Crossfaded Bacon blog, and although there is one GLARING omission, we’re still happy to take a dark jaunt down memory lane with Young Jeezy and his assortment of friends. Listening to the mix, mostly presented in chronological order, a couple things stand out: One, there is not a bad song on here, and two, a best of Young Jeezy mix is like handing us a bag of money and being like, “I hope you like it!” Of course we like it. Just for good measure, we’re reposting our FADER TV interview with the man himself. If you’ve already watched it, watch it again.
