Freeload: Dog Bite, “Brand New”
- story THE FADER
We posted up a bunch of Dog Bite stuff last August not really expecting anything more than a nice out-of-nowhere summer set from him (to go along with our apparent drug and bad metaphor problem), but No Pain In Pop recently posted a brand new song called “Brand New” that indicates further actions by the man also known as Phil Jones. Looking again at his MySpace, we see Jones has a pretty official looking affiliation with the Young Turks imprint, home to El Guincho, Holy Fuck, Tanlines and some other stuff we really really like, so let’s hope for a genuine Dog Bite release sometime soon. In the meantime, he’s done a nice mellow mix for Vibes and Stuff that we have been listening to for warmth today while we wonder if/when winter will end.

- story THE FADER
Dog Bite is a great pseudonym. No doubt. We can get into telling people our new favorite psychedelic sample guy is Dog Bite. But Dog Bite’s real name is Phil Jones. Phil. Jones. It’s like, Hey man, my name is Phil Jones, and you can buy what I’m selling. I’m 20-something years old and my name is Phil Jones. It’s not Antietam or Appleface or anything like that. Just Phil. So yeah, of course some dude named Dog Bite makes creepy pop songs on an MPC a la Panda Bear/El Guincho, but wouldn’t it be so much better if you met some dude named Phil Jones, were friends with him for twenty years, thought he was a grad student or a landscaper or something, and then suddenly one day he’s like I make acid folk in my basement. I’m sorry I kept it from you?
