Video Premiere: DRI, “Two Are One”
- story THE FADER
Since stumbling upon blonde Kansan DRI and her Smoke Rings album late last year, we have taken every opportunity to bring her around and let people know that she is one of our favorite ladies in music right now. We had her at the FADER Fort in Texas this year where she played a keyboard with one hand and a beer with the other. She also performed at our Issue 54 party in a dollar sign minidress. And now we have this brand new video to debut for “Two Are One”, the first song on Smoke Rings. It is soft and subtle, as usual, so we can’t employ our usual ALL CAPS and “awesome jams” descriptors, but trust us, we are excited to have it. And we’re also excited that the album is going to get re-released in October with a bonus remix EP. And as if all that weren’t enough, Dri will be joining both Conor Oberst and Handsome Furs on their respective tours for some dates in July and August, so if our word is not bond enough, you can see for yourself how rad she is.

FADER TV: Dri Live At The FADER 54 Party
- story THE FADER
Late yesterday we put up Free Blood’s performance at our FADER 54 Party, and this morning we’ve got the lovely and talented Dri fresh out of Lawrence, Kansas. Dri was one of the artists we spoke to in our Aaliyah Icon feature in the issue, so it made sense to bring her in for the festivities. If you haven’t heard her album Smoke Rings, released last year on Range Life Records, we recommend it for vegan BBQ’s and any place that encourages public weed smoking.

Live: Dri, Free Blood And Blaqstarr At The FADER 54 Release Party

We piled in a grip of Bass Ale and head up to the tippy top of Greenpoint, Brooklyn this past Wednesday to celebrate the release of our Aaliyah icon issue. Dri, Blaqstarr and Free Blood, all featured in the issue, performed in the palacious Shangri La. Dri covered Aaliyah while wearing a dress of dollar signs, Blaqstarr jammed out Baltimore club, Free Blood (backed by the Brothers played a no wave ebb-and-flower, guitar shred and yelpy yap. People chilled, we chilled, couches, cat and unfinished construction. Loft party photos of the beautiful people after the jump.

Reminder: FADER Party Tonight In Greenpoint
- story THE FADER
It is starting to get dark, so we thought we’d give you one last reminder that we’re celebrating the release of our icon issue at Shangri-La in Greenpoint tonight from 9-1. In addition to performances by Dri and Free Blood and DJ sets by Blaqstarr, there’s complimentary Bass Ale and Black Swan wine. Drink both, but don’t mix them together, or actually, mix them together if you want but that willl be weird and gross. Flyer after the jump.

Levi’s®/FADER Fort: Dri
- story THE FADER
One in the afternoon on Saturday at the Levi’s®/FADER Fort is now Dri-o’clock. Purple paisley is now what we are wearing. Gigantic sunglasses are still the move. Dri, woozy woozemaker, stood in the sun while we stood in the sun and cooed at us and we, with our lesser voices and worse charm, did our best to match her tender paeans.

Video Chat with Range Life Ladies
- story THE FADER
Go to Daytrotter right now to talk live on video to Dri and Suzannah Johannes, both on Range Life Records, the Lawrence, Kansas label we featured in our current issue. Sounds like a weird late night infomercial, true, but these girls are both worth knowing. And if you miss the talk talk, you can check back in to Daytrotter for the session they’re recording tonight for the site in Rock Island, Illinois, and if you live in/on Rock Island (don’t we all?), catch Dri and Suzannah at, ready?, HUCKLEBERRY’S PIZZA.

Video: Dri, “You Know I Tried”
- story THE FADER
Not everyone in Kansas is tripping on some hippie shit (see ya White Flight!) or dogging evolutionary theory in elementary school textbooks (what up, Kansas Board of Education!). No, some people are just hanging at the bar, wearing some sweet feather earrings, and singing about falling in love, or trying to. This track, from Dri’s much under-appreciated Smoke Rings, is about as wistful and breezy and it gets. When she sings that all my ladies are actin crazy, you sorta know what she means. Staying in love is super hard.

Audio: Dri, “What’s Real/Meet Me Out”
- story THE FADER
Dri, short for Adrianne, short for This Girl Who Makes Songs That We Like A Lot, is from Lawrence, Kansas of all places and has a new album called Smoke Rings on Range Life Records and available on iTunes as of last Tuesday. We will have more to say on her and her fellow Kansans in the near future, but for now enjoy a couple of our favorites off the album and go listen to the rest over at Range Life and then go buy the album because it’s awesome. And that should cover you until dinner time.
