DJ Mehdi’s Black Black & Black Remix Mix
- story Peter Macia
FADER favorite DJ Mehdi has a new compilation coming out on November 2nd filled with many fellow Frenchies and a few familiar regular people. To get everyone hyped for the cosmopolitan electro pop on that, Mehdi made this mix of his remixes of a bunch of classic rap and an Uffie song. See how that works? It’s like an alternate dimension. Download below and see the tracklist on Coolcats.

Le Blog Fou d’Ed Banger
- story THE FADER
A member of The FADER editorial staff spent part of his holiday break in Paris, and the one thing he bemoaned more than anything was the lack of English-language French blogs about French people doing things in America that he could read while he was in France. He’s back now, and wouldn’t you know it, an English-language French blog about French people doing things in America started up the day he got back. What a PWN. It’s written by Paris’ coolest dudes and a gal — Busy P, So Me, DJ Mehdi and Fafi — and it’s called Cool Cats le Blog. On any given day, you can learn things like who Mehdi’s J-gurus are (Jay-Z, John Le Carré, Jerry Seinfeld and John Lennon), what Pedro Winter’s torso looks like, which Kid Cudi video So Me is now working on, and whether Fafi is really as annoying as some people would like you to believe (she doesn’t seem to be). Updates are pretty frequent and, of course, there is a store where you can buy t-shirts and stuff.

- story THE FADER
Other than providing FADER superstar blogger DJ A-Trak with a place to stay in Paris for the last month, DJ Mehdi has been spending time recently on the release of his next single for Ed Banger, called “Pocket Piano,” on December 10th. You can hear the original version over on his MySpace, but Pelski just posted the remixes, all of which are good, but especially the Chewy Chocolate Cookies take, which actually isn’t included on the single. We find it hard to believe that a DJ would actually choose that name out of all the words in the English language, but we’re not going to let that take anything away from how good this remix is.

FADER TV: LA Is A Nice Place To Live #2
- story THE FADER
On each episode of FADER TV’s LA Is A Nice Place To Live, the West Coast staff takes in some of the city’s culture and fun good times. This edition has us leaving the office and crossing the street to Nike Sportswear’s Los Angeles retail and event space, The Montalbán, to check out the West Coast premiere of Justice’s tour documentary A Cross the Universe and launch of Busy P and So Me’s rainbow-soled Air Force 1s. While there, we chatted a bit with the Ed Banger crew and co-director Romain Gavras about the film and Los Angeles while avoiding the Halloween traffic.

Video: Munk, “Live Fast Die Old” (Ed Banger All Stars Remix)
- story THE FADER
Technology is pretty cool these days. Dudes like Munk can make a cool song, get an Ed Banger remix with Asia Argento whisper singing on it and then make a video that looks like an advanced iTunes visualizer that all of a sudden has Asia Argento in it, screaming and whispering and generally furthering our Asia Argento as Riot Grrrl hypothesis.

Death is overrated. Even despite your collection of Italian horror films depicting bloody ghost decapitations and creepy little girls trying to suck your intestines into the teevee. Munk, this German dude who is apparently obsessed with Man Ray judging from his MySpace, understands that the junkies who live fast and die young are stinky, stupid and gross, and that living fast and dying OLD is obviously the way to go, cause then you actually have more time to play wild games. So he made a song about it and got Roman actor/auteur Asia Argento to sing on it; she sounds surprisingly riot churrrrlish (or maybe we’re projecting because her new album is a picture of her HAIRY UNSHAVEN ARMPIT). The original is this awesome understated disco pop jernt, but obviously Ed Banger couldn’t keep their sticky little fingaz (shout to Onyx) off it and made this electro-burpy big-room version, hopefully to remind the gel-hoarders at their raves that love rules and also, Christopher Walken is rad. Buy the whole shebang here.

Audio: Justice, “Hope”
- story THE FADER
When you google the word justice, Justice ranks higher than the Department of Justice, which kind of fucks up our plans for a Summer Music feature on Michael “Boogie Down Bronx” Mukasey. We move on. The reason for our googling is this new track from Xavier and Gaspard, supposedly from the third volume of the Ed Banger Recs compilation series. We’ll see if that’s true, and in the meantime, we’ll be jamming out to the 2008 National Drug Threat Assessment!
UPDATE: According to Justice scholar Asian Dan “Hope” is just some anime theme music. What a gip. And what a boon to detractors!
