Exclusive Premiere: Florence & the Machine, “Rabbit Heart (Jamie T./Lionheart RMX)” MP3

Somehow this remix of Florence & the Machine’s Elizabethan epic “Rabbit Heart” transforms sparse drums and organ cluster into a dance track semi-reminiscent of old Fatboy Slim (the good Fatboy Slim) and trip-hop (making a comeback?), but not depressive, bleak or moody at all—it couldn’t be anyway with the crystal rainbows of piano burbling out at the end. And when you think about it, the chorus of “raise it up” is perfect for dancefloor self-motivation, like Florence is your life coach. Best case scenario, she is a life coach that also lets you borrow her outfits.

Exclusive Premiere: Memory Cassette, “Last One Awake (CFCF RMX)” MP3

Memory Cassette just dropped their Call & Response EP, which is all excellently woozy, rhythmic cloud-surfing… but it’s already completely sold out. Rather, the 500 limited edition hard copies are sold out… enterprising young internetters may still cop the digital traxx from Acephale, and in the interest of preserving our well-preened reputation as the anti-Debbie Downers of music reportage, we present to you a remix of “Last One Awake” by our main dude CFCF, the Quebecois whose thoughtful synthpop tracks stay on the office stereo. For “Last One Awake” he’s worked the gauziness of Memory Cassette’s fabric into a “Rhythm is a Dancer”y nuovo trance, his choppy synths and muted drums dramatizing the Memory Cassette vocals you can never quite see past the mist. A whole remix EP is coming later this week, videos to follow, so feel free to wait with bated breath.

Exclusive Freeload: Esser, “I Love You (Prince Paul RMX)”

London’s Esser is one of our favorite new dudes. He writes such quirkily lovelorn pop, and he killed at the Levi’s/FADER Fort in Austin this year, not to mention he has amazing style (the custom Esser jacket was thee ultiimate jam). One of the best songs off his forthcoming album is entitled “I Love You,” which includes the astute line Love is no excuse for bad art. Can we make that an internet meme please? People got to learn. Prince Paul remixed “I Love You” into an even forlorner track we are giving to you as a present, plus download his single “Headlock” and watch the OG “I Love You” video above for a total Esserextravaganza.

Exclusive Freeload: Friendly Fires, “Paris (Justus Kohncke remix)”

Our well-advertised love for the music of Brit trio Friendly Fires comes from many places—how their gleaming pop collapses into gelatin distortion freakouts, for instance, their affinity for house music, and endless hooks that we now know by heart. We also like them because they are so savvy. Why wouldn’t they get a German techno producer to remix a dreamy song about moving to Paris? It’s the minimal techno version of Euraling into your future. It is subtle, slightly ambient, and over ten minutes long. We played it in its entirety on the radio last Friday, violating every on-air DJ rule about time cutoffs, but then again we also karaoke over songs and curse and let dead air play out for a little bit, so does it look like we give a f about rules? We don’t need rules! We just need more remixes of “Paris.”
