FADER TV: The Entrance Band at (((folkYEAH!))) Festival in the Forest

Featured in the
New Folk Edition of F2
(powered by Timberland), The Entrance Band headlined at (((folkYEAH!))) Festival in the Forest this year, the largest hippie celebration since the world record for hacky sacking was broken. Videographer
Joel Garber
and writer Daniel Arnold hung out with the band amidst the flora and fauna of Big Sur and took witness as they rocked the hemp pants off of many long-haired dudes and ladydudes. Take note at the part in the video where frontman, Guy Blakeslee, says that “it seems like California is the place where everyone should be,” as you hear the flick of a lighter, “no offense to other places.” None taken, Guy. None taken.

F2 Issue 4: The New Folk

Introducing the latest issue of our digital-only quarterly F2, powered by Timberland, which focuses on the New Folk. There is a tendency in modern folk music to always look to the past for guidance and inspiration. If The Band or Bob Dylan did it before, then it’s probably a good idea. The key to being a successful and, more importantly, good folk artist in 2008 is to nod to the past while simultaneously venturing forth into new territory. The artists featured in this issue of F2 — The Entrance Band, Mariee Sioux, Michael Gira, Phosphorescent and Quinn Walker — have achieved this balance, creating dynamic music with every bit as much heart as the folk music of prior generations. They may glance backward, but they are firmly planted in the now. Beards still included.

NYC: F2 Release Party Starring HUGS

Chances are we all spend our Tuesday nights more or less the same, buying some new records and listening to them at home with a glass of something. It’s a tradition we enjoy, but the one way we would enjoy it more is if we were with all of our bros drinking complimentary Black Swan wine while HUGS (also known as this dude and this dude) ran into our minds and snatched out all the songs we wanted to hear and then played them over speakers. It is what happens every time we are in a room with them, whether it’s at Lit on Monday nights (ie tonight!) or anywhere else, like our Timberland and FADER party celebrating the release of the second installment of F2 that you can RSVP for here. Check the full flyer and a couple more details after the jump.

Video: Cut Copy, “Far Away (Live on The Interface)”

If you avert your eyes from this post for a minute, down and to the right, you will see a box for a little venture called F2 (Download here) that we put together and is powered by Timberland. On the “cover” of F2 is this band Cut Copy from Australia. We like them a lot and we like when they play their songs live, which is exactly what they did for Spinner.com’s The Interface. We chose “Far Away” but all videos are worth a look here.

Introducing F2

At The FADER we have several outlets to let you know about all that’s good and interesting in the world. There’s a magazine (it’s called The FADER) and there’s a website (you’re reading it), but sometimes that’s not enough! So let us introduce F2 (ta-da!), our new online-only magazine. This quarterly publication, powered by Timberland, features completely new and completely exclusive content. In 2008, each issue of F2 will focus on how a different classic genre is being reexamined and reinterpreted. The first issue tackles the New Disco and includes two photo essays on Melbourne dance music (featuring Midnight Juggernauts, Miami Horror and cover stars Cut Copy), as well as profiles of Sally Shapiro, Jokers of the Scene, Boys Noize and more.
