Video: Cass McCombs, “That’s That (Live on KCRW)” + F49 Gen F
- story THE FADER
To live in LA means to be confronted with the nasal British twang of KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic host Nic Harcourt whenever you get in your car. It’s law. But despite the twang, dude and station have embraced the internet with gusto and record tons of great live performances, including this one of FADER favorite Cass McCombs. His Dropping the Writ album dropped some motherfricking science on the indie geetar pop scene last year and probably hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves. Here’s some more attention, brother! Cass is currently touring through the southern states, so make sure to check him out and also read our Gen F on dude from a few issues ago after the jump.
Revisionaries
- story THE FADER
The genesis of the Tokion art book, Revisionaries, is an interesting one: the mag wanted to do a book that celebrated its history but when nothing could be decided on, the book became a reflection of the progress and subsequent democratization of the art world through the lens of Tokion coverage. “Now there are ten thousand galleries and there are so many different communities of people that are into art,” says Ken Miller, curator of the book and former Editor-In-Chief of Tokion. Inside, you’ll find work from the likes of Ed Templeton, Assume Vivid Astro Focus, Chris Johanson, and Rita Ackermann. Essentially it’s about celebrating the history of Tokion without actually being about Tokion. “The thing that defined the magazine was the artists that were in it,” says Miller. “That was really the personality of the magazine.”
Buy Revisionaries now for yourself or an artsy fartsy loved one from HNA Books or your local bookseller.
Video: Freeway, “It’s Over/Lights Get Low”
- story THE FADER
It’s pretty cool how everyone is finally starting to experiment with ways to push an album, release videos and music and actually try a little harder to earn our money. Even Freeway, whose album could not possibly have been lower on the Def Jam totem pole, is getting three simultaneous videos out to the public because those videos obviously didn’t cost $1 million apiece. Fortunately for us, the music is deserving of more than one video. In fact, we wouldn’t mind if every song off Free at Last got a video, especially if it means more Drama cameos. He’s the king.

NYC: Thurston Moore & Bright Eyes at Radio City
- story THE FADER
There aren’t many things we can think of that are more New York than seeing Thurston Moore at Radio City Music Hall with the bigass Christmas tree up (but dark) right down the street at Rockefeller. Actually, getting mugged by Al Pacino with a hot dog would be pretty fucking New York too, but we’ll settle. And Conor Oberst is coming along (or headlining) and he’s a great friend of The FADER as well, if a bit of a hillbilly. Just joshin’ Conor. The doors open at 8pm, and the Christmas tree gets lit up on November 28th. Read our Q+A with Thurston Moore from FADER 49 after the jump.
Video: Freeway, “Still Got Love”
- story THE FADER
What a great concept for a video: Freeway walking around shaking people’s hands. One of our writers probably shook Freeway’s hand when he met him for this Q+A in FADER 49. Maybe they hugged. Maybe they just stared at each other. But they definitely talked.
Audio: Freeway, “When They Remember”
- story THE FADER
There is no Freeway song that isn’t an intense Freeway song, but this is actually physically stressful to listen to. Like HEY WE GOTTA DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS WHATEVER IT IS. LET’S GO RUN SOMEWHERE OR VOTE OR SOMETHING. Free at Last comes out next Tuesday and is definitely worth paying money for.
Audio: B.O.B., “Lonely People”
- story THE FADER
B.O.B. just put up a grip of new songs on his MySpace which range from club songs (one is literally hooked “This is my club song”) to really bad singing to “Lonely People” which samples the Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby” and has B.O.B. rapping about the tried-and-true musical subject that is wasted youth. It is awesome. After the jump you can read Andrew Noz’s Gen F on the Atlanta native from FADER 49.
FADER 49: Freeway
- story THE FADER
Since we just jacked Nah Right (take a nap, dude) for this new leak from Free at Last, we figured it was a good time to share our conversation with Freeway about Philly, faith and his return to the limelight with the new album straight from the pages of FADER 49.
Freeway f. 50 Cent, “Take it to the Top”
Video: Spank Rock & Benny Blanco, “Pu$$y”
- story THE FADER
Wow dudes. We really don’t think Benny or Spank Rock are trying to do anything but have fun with Bangers & Cash and this video doesn’t seem to be doing anything other than make us laugh. Unless cartoon talking vaginas are like the new minimal techno or something. Also, the only people 2 Live Crew shocked were old white ladies in Florida. Anyway, watch the video and try to think too hard about it.
