FADER 53: Ladyhawk Feature

Our love of Ladyhawk—the most American sounding Canadian band working today—is well documented in the various forms of media we inhabit, but the hugest bummer of all the bummers is that Europe has never gotten a chance to experience the band live on a real life stage. Ladyhawk are coming to you London and Dublin and Groningen and Utrecht and other places (like the non European city of Los Angeles), go see them and buy them beers. Tour dates are below, and then when you are done looking at those, read Sam Hockley-Smith’s feature on the band from F53.

08/26 – Los Angeles, CA – Fuck Yeah! Fest
09/21 – Tilburg, Netherlands – ZXZW Festival
09/22 – Amsterdam, Netherlands – Paradiso

FADER 53: Ricky Blaze Feature

Back in our April issue we jumped on the Ricky Blaze train early, documenting he and the Fire Unit’s leading roll in the nascent Brooklyn underage dancehall scene, from pirate radio shows to hectic parties. Now, just in time for Ricky and company’s summer takeover, you can get acquainted with our FADER 53 feature story after the jump.

FADER 53: Telepathe Feature

Whether or not you just watched them in FADER TV’s “Avoiding Disease At The Yard” or not, you should want to know more about Brooklyn’s Telepathe because they are great and are not afraid to do whatever they feel like. We respect that, and we wrote a story about them. Read it in its entirety after the jump.

Freeload: Bohagon, “Been Gettin’ Money”

If you’ve paid any attention to Atlanta over the last decade and a half, you might get the feeling there are a lot of guys down in the A like Bohagon—dudes whose raps you could listen to all day, who enter your orbit once a season, but there’s just never enough time to champion them all. But Bohagon finally has a solo album coming out someday soon, and this single illustrates exactly why we decided to put him in FADER #53. Read that after the jump and uh set a Google alert for “bohagon who am i?” for the album release.

Live: Abe Vigoda At The FADER 53 Release Party

You know what’s awesome? Seeing Abe Vigoda play on a half pipe in the middle of a warehouse in the conveniently named Warehouse District in LA. Equally awesome is that we were drinking complimentary Bass Ale the whole time and wandering around from the floor to the back yard (shout to the bonfire at the warehouse next door). Also, they were grilled cheese sandwiches and the now infamous-in-some-circles Cali Dewitt and Jenna Thornhill of Mika Miko manning the turntables and playing us some epic jams. Check out a few photos of the event after the jump.

Vinyl Archeology: DJ Craze Remembers Miami Bass

DJ Craze is a record-setting, three-time DMC world champion and is widely accepted as one of the best scratch DJs on Earth. He just dropped a mix for Fabric’s DJ series, Fabriclive, and since MySpace tourdates never lie, is also apparently Kanye’s new DJ, which means he will be even more famous in about three seconds. After the jump, read Craze’s VA from FADER 53 in which he recalls and recounts the very first Miami Bass tracks he heard growing up in MIA. Also, since it’s the internet, we’ve added some multimedia-ness to the whole thing.

FADER contributing editor and DJ Eddie Stats hooked up an excellent mix of the music that made our issue.
