FEATURE: Dutty Artz Represents the World Town

While you may have read about Friday night’s NY Tropical at Glasslands in Williamsburg featuring some of the Dutty Artz crew, we actually went out and walked in to Matt Shadetek playing office (and UK) favorite, Kyla’s “Do You Mind?” before 77Klash got up on stage in white pants and blazer and ripped it. If you weren’t there, you should download Shadetek’s NY Tropical mix to get an inkling of what you missed. To fill in the info gaps, check Julianne Shepherd’s feature on Dutty Artz from FADER 61 after the jump.
Style: Outlier
- story THE FADER
In FADER 61 we took springtime extra curricular activities very seriously, profiling some awesome urban bike wear (but without all the profane spandex). Designers from Brooklyn based label, Outlier, fulfilled the requests of their fellow bikers, designing a series that looks good on and off the bike. For them, a cycling hat isn’t just a hat, it’s a balance of sleek lines, polished mechanics and durable materials, kind of like a nice Peugeot. Now, in a limited series, designers Tyler Clemens and Abe Burmeister have teamed up with Austin “Horse”—a crazy bike riding dude—to make a breathable lightweight hoodie that dips in the back, an amazing shape for covering any unfortunate vertical smile action that may be happening on afternoon bike rides this summer. Check out what we had to say about the brand after the jump.
Freeload: The FADER Issue 61 Podcast
- story THE FADER
Every release of an Icon issue is a special occasion, but this year is a little extra special because we’ve dedicated it to someone who’s still around: man about town and former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne. We switched up the format and spoke to Byrne himself, as well as profiling five artists we think are carrying on his legacy, namely Grizzly Bear, Michael Bell-Smith, Theophilus London, Micachu & The Shapes and the Dutty Artz crew. There are also life maps, old photos, essays and weirdness. And as always, we’ve got a bunch of great bands in our Gen F section and a million other interesting things throughout, including a globetrotting fashion photo story of cyclists around the world (That one’s for you, Byrne!). We’ve put together a mix of music from the issue, presented by Bacardi B-Live, that includes jams from Byrne, Salem, Joker, Pterodactyl, Grizzly Bear, Erup, Jahdan Blakkamoore, Theophilus London, Nipsey Hussle and more. Download it below and pick up a copy of the issue now at the newsstand of your choosing. When the paper wears out, come back to FADER.com for a free download of our issue PDF in two weeks.

Live: FADER 61 Issue Release Party
- story THE FADER
To celebrate the fact that we just finished an issue with David Byrne on the cover (insane!) we decided to link up with our dudes at We Make It Good to throw a party in a crazy popup store with giant phones and videos projected everywhere. We also decided that for some good old FADER synergy we’d have a few of the F61-featured Dutty Artz crew warm us up while we knocked back Budweiser and ogled the dude dressed as Karl Lagerfeld. Weird times. Before 10:00pm, California’s next great rap hope Nipsey Hussle hopped on stage, and kept us interested in the face of sound problems and camera snaps. By the time Pretty Titty started playing jams we were feeling a teeny tiny bit less responsible (if you know what we mean), so we walked off into the night, another successful FADER party under our belts.
