FADER TV: Sean Paul at Federation Sound 10th Anniversary Party

We attended the Sunglass Hut/Business Class-hosted Federation Sound 10th birthday last night at Santos Party House and to be totally honest it is really difficult to form complete sentences right now. Santos was jammed and there was much gully creeping and sweeping (and drinking). Chino, Laden, 77Klash, Jahdan and TNT all performed—TNT, we will wife you anytime btw—but everyone was there to see Sean Paul. He, of course, did not disappoint, and we’ve got a little FADER TV footage to prove it with SEANUH PAL doing “Gimme the Light,” “Like Glue” and “Get Busy” in the same order they appeared on his classic Dutty Rock album. This happened around three or four in the morning and we had to fight with some crazy Japanese girls to get this angle so we really hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

FADER TV: Behind the Scenes at Carnegie Hall for Terry Riley’s In C

Legend has it that 45 years ago a stoned Terry Riley sat on a San Francisco city bus and in a cloud burst of avant genius composed the groundbreaking minimalist piece “In C,” a loose conjoining of quick melodies over a steady glass ping to be played by any number of people and instruments over any period of time. To celebrate the piece’s anniversary, David Harrington of Kronos Quartet, a longtime collaborator of Riley, organized a huge collection of friends and family to play “In C” at Carnegie Hall. We were lucky enough to sneak into the rehearsal, almost opening the door on a very focused Philip Glass on keys. We spoke to a few of the players—who included everyone from a choir of New York City children to blistering vocal legend Joan La Barbara to beloved children’s musician Dan Zanes to Terry’s son Gyan—and caught some of Riley directing the piece’s very loose structure. We also went back to Carnegie the next night to see the performance, which lasted near two hours. Riley’s standing ovation lasted about a year.

Live Video: Excepter Play for a Really Long Time

Brooklyn dub noise experimentalists Excepter are apparently seeking to one up Fucked Up—who recently played for twelve hours straight—by playing from when the polls opened for voting until a new US president is elected at three million o clock tonight. If you want to get in on the action, head over to Monkeytown in Williamsburg. But if you are on line to vote, not in New York or just pretty lazy, watch the streaming video up above, and get ready to noise-dance your way into a new presidency. Watch the live stream of the show here.

Video: Ponytail at the Levi’s®/FADER Fort NYC

What is it like to watch a whirlwind go across a stage? That is a question we will never actually be able to answer, but we can come close by showing this video from Ponytail’s set at the Levi’s®/FADER Fort. We actually had to take a nap immediately following their performance.

FADER TV: Sebastien Tellier Live in NYC + Photo Tour Blog, Part 2

FINALLY! Sebastien Tellier hooks us up with some lewd photos. It took him long enough. JUST KIDDING! Sebastien Tellier=Sex Jams=Kinda Weird Photos=We Are Totally Pleased. That math equation doesn’t make sense, but we don’t even care, we’re just happy to check the photos from the next couple legs of his tour across LA, the East Coast, Canada and an American Apparel (its own sovereign nation). Check out the further adventures of Sebastien (featuring alternate world Sebastien) after the jump.

FADER TV: No Age Likes Hats

So you know we’ve loved No Age since they were born basically—our first mention of them on this blog coming way back in February of 2007, then a weird one-off profile on the label that first put out their singles Teenage Teardrops, then a Gen F in FADER 44, then a full-fledged feature in FADER 48, a million blog posts, FADER shows, and finally the coup de grâce… a hat. Yep, No Age designed a New Era fitted for us (don’t worry we’ll be giving some away soon), and we were so stoked on it that we threw a party the day before they unleased the Pitchfork 9.whatever-scoring Nouns upon the world. And here is a somewhat crappy video of the dudes playing a song from that album, “Here Should Be My Home”, in full technicolor SCHNIPPERVISION.

FADER TV: Open Bar With BLK JKS

Video by Joe Angerone

Trust us, when we put Johannesburg’s BLK JKS on the cover of our Africa Issue, we had no idea we’d be seeing them more frequently than our parents this year. From New York to Texas and back to New York, the dudes have been grinding hard and meeting half of America in the meantime. We managed to wrangle them for an episode of Open Bar, our new series filmed at
Heathers in the East Village. They jammed out an acoustic version of “Molalatladi” and then disappeared to do something presumably cool because that’s all they do. Tomorrow night though, 11:30 at Joe’s Pub, they will be playing their last show before heading back home, so come out and say goodbye (for now) and prep for the release of their new Mystery EP recorded at Electric Ladyland while you were sleeping.

FADER TV: BLK JKS at FADER 52 Release Party

Last Friday at The Knitting Factory we hosted, along with Bass Ale, a party celebrating the release of our Africa issue. Featuring the sweet sounds of DJs Eddie Stats and DJ/Rupture floating down on us from that weird upper level that looks like those raised indoor tracks that we had to run around in high school, as well as a surprisingly bass heavy set from Brooklyn’s own High Places followed by the US debut of South Africa’s BLK JKS. We did the jam band dance along with everyone else—we see you dude in multi-colored beanie! Check out BLK JKS’ performance of “Lakeside” from our party up above and check out a select few pictures from the event after the jump.
