Raekwon f. Cappadonna & Ghostface, “10 Bricks” MP3
- story Peter Macia
A month or so ago, Raekwon came to the office to play a few clips off OB4CL2 and ended up staying for two hours, asking for some produce then mashing more fruit than a blender on South Beach, all the while giving the most fascinating running commentary on almost every track on the album. If there was a way for him to sell that experience, maybe as a book tour type thing at select comic book stores, we’d pay $100 a ticket. Unfortunately, he probably won’t. But we promise you this Dilla relic channeling classic Wu-bangers and topping his own previously leaked OB4CL2 track “House of Flying Daggers” is just the tip of the iceberg.

Freeload: City of God’s Son
- story THE FADER
Remember Prince Paul’s A Prince Among Thieves? Kenzo Digital’s concept album City of God’s Son is a lot like that, except there is no song where Everlast raps as a racist cop. Instead, the project flips the idea of the hip-hop skit into an hour long drug narrative that casts Ghostface, Nas and Jay-Z as a trio of friends growing up together in New York. Nerds can hypothesize about what such a friendship might’ve been like (Rap Power Rangers?), but we’re nerding out in the opposite direction by getting excited that the whole thing is narrated by the oft-sampled Fania legend Joe Bataan. Kudos to Kenzo for the dedication to plot structure and insane work ethic, too. They recommened listening all at once, at night, on headphones, but don’t worry, there are plans to play the work, along with a video component in New York this summer.

Freeload: The RZA f. Kool G Rap, Ghostface Killah & Tash Mahogany, “Whar”
- story THE FADER
Yo, someone just informed us that RZA is really into martial arts, and he has turned that interest into a music career! For real, we remember the days when Kung Fu Theater was on UHF on Sundays, so there is nothing more interesting than one of our all-time favorite producers making music for a movie called Afro Samurai: The Resurrection, especially when that music is some of his grimiest in recent years like this megajoint with the gods. For the full media experience, hit mute on the trailer video above and listen to Ghostface spit while dudes get their heads chopped off. Afro Samurai the series debuts on January 25th on Spike TV, the movie is out on February 3rd, and RZA’s soundtrack stabs your brain on January 27th.

Freeload: Ghostface, “Slept On Tony”
- story THE FADER
Word on the street (a couple websites) is that this is an unreleased cut from Ironman. Sonically that seems about right since not even Wu members (with the possible exception of Killah Priest) are calling themselves “scientifically intelligent” these days. If it is off Ironman, we can see how its triumphant and celebratory horns might have gotten cut from that dark and dusted epic. It’ll show up on Ghostdeini the Great, Ghostface’s collection of rarities and unreleased tracks with a couple new songs thrown in for good measure coming out on December 16th.

Live: Hot 97 Summer Jam 2008, Giants Stadium, New Jersey
- story THE FADER
Summer Jam has built its entire rep on ridiculous moments, i.e. G-Unit starting a riot with chair-throwing in a downpour and Mobb Deep and Jay-Z getting into beef zone when Jay projected a flick of Prodigy extra dick-riding Michael Jackson’s outfit, glove and all. But the Summer Jam stage has never seen anything as subversive, uncomfortable and totally bizarre as Lil Wayne’s 20 minute set, apparently blasted on his own summer Js and a total amazing/scary rock star set, as in “DEAR GIANTS STADIUM, FOLLOW ME INTO MY K-HOLE, XOXO WEEZY.”

Video: Ghostface, “We Celebrate”
- story THE FADER
Sometimes when you’re watching a video you just zoom in on one random detail and it’s all you notice, this time it’s Ghost’s hilarious facial expressions while sitting in some sort of money support group, bemused and smirking, stopping only to throw stacks of bills like candy.
Audio: Ghostface f. Method Man & Raekwon, “Yolanda’s House”
- story THE FADER
On this song Method Man does a hyper-detailed Ghostface style verse, and once again, Raekwon sounds like he’s rapping from a little ways down the hall. In any case, we are in no way mad at this or all the other new Wu material. Ghost’s The Big Doe Rehab comes out December 4th.
