Jason Nocito is Our Favorite Calendar Boy
- story Chioma Nnadi
"Straight Shooter" A COACD 2010 Malendar from COACD on Vimeo.
Casting director Douglas Perrett of COACD fame, has put together a calendar of men to end all calendars (or malender if you prefer), and somehow managed to round up a bevy of hot photographers to pose for it. Best of all, Jason Nocito (straight shooter of FADER cover fame) has made the cover! Nocito has basically shot more FADER covers than any photographer in the history of this magazine, so it goes without saying that we’ll be breaking out the bubbly on this one. Camerone Krone (September), you might think you look cute spread all over that leather but clearly our boy wins on the sofa shot hands down! Since shipping on these 12 pages of loveliness will take about five to seven days, we’ll be nailing our United Bamboo 2010 calendar of awesome fancy cats to the wall in the meantime.

Fashion Outtakes: The One That Got Away
- story Chioma Nnadi
The fashion story in our current Summer Music issue was shot by photographer Jason Nocito over the course of a hot and steamy weekend in New York City—a bit of a homecoming since far flung nooks and crannies of the world tend to be more our thing. The story rolls out in sweltering states of summer dress and undress—bikinis as tops, pants that are all sweetness and light, and vests worn snuggly on bare skin. As always, there were a couple of stellar looks left on the cutting room floor, including this lesson in hot weather hat-wearing. The gorgeous translucent piece is made by New York-based label Makins, and their work definitey lives up to the milinery levels of yore, back when wearing a hat was standard practice. It also kind of reminds of Brigitte Bardot in the epic Le Mépris. Bardot spends most of the movie nude or in a bikini, but when Godard decides to let her put some clothes on, she certainly does it right.

Jason Nocito’s Apartamento Vacation
- story Peter Macia
- photo Jason Nocito
If you’re lucky, when you hit the homepage of frequent FADER photographer Jason Nocito, you’ll see a photo of a chalkboard with “I Like cheese” and a block of Swiss scrawled on it. That just about sums up our feelings every time we see Nocito or his photos (not the cheese, the liking stuff). In the newest issue of Barcelona-based “everyday life interiors magazine,” Apartamento, our affections are once again kindled by Nocito’s particular visions of the world, in this case, Mumbai while on assignment. The issue will set Americans back 25 dollars, but for that price you get to find out how the lead singer of Vampire Weekend lives and what to expect when you send your toddler to A.P.C.’s new daycare in Paris, and all with but a few admittedly somewhat hilarious Euro advertisements. Find the few remaining copies of Apartamento #3 in your finer bookstores and watch for #4 in October.

Slideshow: David Byrne Takes Us on a Guided Tour of His Insane Office, Part III
- story THE FADER
In our current issue, along with all of its other David Byrne-related wonder, you can see regular FADER contributor Jason Nocito’s intimate photos of Byrne in his massive office at the Todo Mundo headquarters. Because of the natural constraints of paper magazines, we were neither able to fit every photo in the issue nor have Byrne explain what you were looking at. Fortunately, we have the internet, and Byrne was generous enough to record this guided audio tour of all the peculiar objects and ephemera photographed by Nocito that otherwise would’ve never been seen. We had so much material, and Byrne had so much to say, we’ve decided to split it into three parts, the last of which focuses on the many personal works of art that adorn the space. See and hear above. And as a bonus, head over to NPR to listen to Byrne and many others perform at the recent Dark Was The Night concert at Radio City Music Hall.

NYC: Aperture/Tiny Vices Book Release Party
- story THE FADER
Tonight the Aperture Gallery and Bookstore (547 W. 27th St, 4th fl.) will debut their collaborative book series with Tim Barber’s Tiny Vices. The exhibition/sale will premiere books from Allan MacIntyre, Jaimie Warren, and FADER contributors Robin Schwartz (who shot photos of her young daughter hanging out with monkeys and other animals in F38, as well as a series of photos documenting the astonishing 1980s Baltimore street horsing scene in F41), Kenneth Cappello (The Libertines in F17), and Jason Nocito, who is responsible for approximately 92,000 awesome photographs in The FADER every issue. Each photographer will be in attendance, hopefully standing next to their work like they are at a middle school science fair.

LA: Being True
- story THE FADER
UNDFTD on La Brea is hosting a photo event tonight celebrating the Nike Dunk or something crazy like that. It’s called Being True and features images inspired by that phrase from mega brohomié Jason Nocito and former FADER contributors Angela Boatwright and Kenneth Capello, along with basically every hot shit youth culture photographer of the last decade, all of which are listed on the flyer after the jump. The show was curated by Emma Reeves and Aaron Rose and Mika Miko is jamming it out. Get there early though because UNDFTD is not used to tons of dudes waiting in a line on the sidewalk.
