For our current issue, FADER #60, we visited Beirut’s Zach Condon in Brooklyn and talked to him at length about his experience recording his new March of the Zapotec EP with Banda Jimenez in Oaxaca, Mexico. Never satisfied to just hear about these things secondhand, we sent our very own John Francis Peters down to Teotitlan del Valle to photograph the members of Banda Jimenez in their hometown. Hey Kanye, Those Photos Look Really Familiar

Kanye West’s website is the obvious internet stop for images of uncomfortable looking chairs, PG-13 J.O. material and cars that even he can’t afford, but now it’s apparently home of uncredited, unlinked photos that were taken directly from thefader.com. INTERNET PARTY FOUL!!!!!! Last Wednesday (aka the first day of the rest of our lives), we posted images shot on election night in Fort Greene, Times Square and Harlem by our own photo coordinator, John Francis Peters and other members of The FADER staff. On Friday, those exact same photos appeared on West’s blog with nary a mention of John Francis Peters, thefader.com or any indication of where they came from. We’re used to seeing our photos uncredited all over the internet, but dude, really?

Photo: Skerrit Bwoy Lights Up The Bronx

In our current issue, we ran a profile of Antigua-born, NYC-residing Skerrit Bwoy, a dancer/DJ/party-starting madman whose Domestic Violence style (funnier than it sounds) of whine acrobatics was probably the best thing we’d ever seen on YouTube when we first laid eyes on it. Skerrit invited The FADER’s John Francis Peters to come with him to the Ebony Lounge in the Bronx, his hometurf, to photograph a regular night in Skerrit’s world. Every night in Austin, while the FADER staff counted sheep and empty Sparks cans, our intrepid photographer John Francis Peters would hit the streets, documenting the world outside the walls of the FADER Fort. And then we’d see him at breakfast and he’d be all like “I’m tired,” and we’d be like “Get to work, sissy.” These are his photos from the hours we never knew he had in him.
