Video: Crookers f. Kardinal Offishal, “Put Your Hands On Me”

Crookers have never been accused of being subtle, so this video, which we’re honestly not sure is safe for work or not, seems just about right. (via Discobelle)

Video Premiere/Audio: Keys 2 The City With Kardinal Offishall

Hypothetically, right at this very moment you could have more Kardinal Offishall in your life than ever before. His album Not For Sale is for sale right now. If you are cheap, or if you are unsure, stream the entire album below. Then you will be sure enough to buy it. Also, for those that are already part of the “Offishall FADER Kardi Fan Club” (WOKKA WOKKA), check out the latest installment of Imeem’s Key 2 the City video series, featuring Kardinall driving around Toronto and visiting his old elementary school, premiering right here, up above this text, on thefader.com.

Freeload: Kardinal Offishall f. The-Dream, “Gimme Some”

For far too many, attempting to bridge the gap between dancehall and hip hop has been an exercise in humility. Our man Kardi, however, has always walked the line gracefully, and in some cases glamorously like on this Dream collab. We could talk about how the sprightly voices of Akon and the Dream can make Kardi sound great, but that would imply that he wasn’t already great. Despite it’s confusing title, “Not For Sale” is indeed for sale this Tuesday, September 9th. Get that shit!
PS Why doesnt everyone let Wayne Marshall pacecar their songs?

Freeload: Kardinal Offishall f. Akon, “Dangerous (Soca Mix)”

We’ve been jonesing for a proper copy of this mix ever since Kardi performed it on his lighters-up 106 & Park appearance. The original tune was cool enough as a Summer radio jam slash guilty pleasure but this new take is an earworm on sterioids, with synth steel drums (straight out the the Optimum Online reggaeton commercial!) that somehow manage to make Kardinal’s propulsive chanting and Akon’s Lionel Richie-worthy hook that much catchier. Resistance is futile, people! It’s a soca world and we just live in it…

Video/Freeload: Kardinal Offishall f. Clipse, “Set It Off” + Re-Up Gang, “Money”

To get it out of the way: Re-Up Gang sound like they recorded “Money” by yelling through the stomach of a robot in a secret tunnel underneath Rick Rubin’s bearskin rug. And it works! “Money,” from the soon to be released Re-Up album, isn’t as good as “Set it Off,” from Kardinal Offishall’s upcoming album Not 4 Sale, which succeeds by taking Kardi’s highly dubious line I don’t take my chain off on the mic, it’s my security piece/it gives me security! and makes it sound kinda balling.

Video: Kardinal Offishall f. Lindo P, “Burnt”

Remember Mad Lion? The basic idea of Mad Lion was great, but Mad Lion himself was less so. Kardinal Offishall works off the same blueprint to drastically better results, also Kardinal Offishall works with Akon. Here’s the video for “Burnt,” which looks like a lot of fun. We haven’t seen a rap video with dudes having lots of fun not attached to speedboats or DJ Khaled in a long while.

Freeload: Kardinal Offishall and Clinton Sparks, Limited Time Only

The last time Kardi and Clinton teamed up for a tape, it was one of the year’s best, sticking to it’s then-novel ’90s throwback theme all the way from the Photoshopped Do The Right Thing cover to the loving Cypress Hill and Redman tributes. Their latest project isn’t quite as high concept—man, we SO did not anticipate that “A Millie” freestyle!—but it’s still worth a download to preview six tracks of hot fiya from this summer’s Not 4 Sale LP (including a new Clipse collab and the dancehall banger “Bad Like We Bad”) and hear Kardi keep it extra real over Big Boi’s “Royal Flush” – “Be clear/ After last call I’m outta here/ I’m tryna upgrade from Expedia to jet lear…” We feel you! Except for the responsible drinking part.

Video/Freeload: Daytona vs Tribe

Back in 2006, we ran the first ever interview with Daytona, a Bronx MC with off-the-charts swag and a refreshing ear for beats, strictly off the strength of his track “All Dem” getting crazy rewinds from Cipha Sounds every Saturday morning on Hot 97. Since then, dude has dropped occasional freestyles, but otherwise kept a profile more Cast Away than “Daytona like the beach, bitch!” But he’s back, two years later and just in time for Summer, dropping this new A Tribe Called Fresh mixtape of remade Native Tongue-related jams. The tracklist goes everywhere from “1ce Again” with Talib Kweli to a sick freestyle over Dilla’s “Workin On It” to this ‘08 version of “Lyrics 2 Go” video-ed above, co-starring fellow Gen F journeyman Kardinal and Joell Ortiz, the best “regular dude” in rap not from New Jersey.

Video: Kardinal Offishall f. Akon, “Dangerous”

It is warm outside and it is Cinco de Mayo so we are imagining how dope it would be to kick it with Kardi and Akon on an island (or a beach or wherever) during the making of this video. We would sit with them in some sun chairs and drink Margaritas and then we would go to the carnival and get our pictures taken on fake covers of magazines, like they do with the video chick in this joint. Only instead of King magazine, we would all be on the cover of Monocle together and we’d have an in-depth discussion about the socioeconomics of Indonesia and how it affects the global dollmaking market, as seen through the lens of free-trade textiles post-NAFTA, as influenced by the US sanctions on Cuba. Then we would have a dance off.
