Kidd Kidd, New Kidd On The Block Mixtape
- story Felipe Delerme
Young Money Stanleys (read: us) remember Kidd Kidd from his days anchoring Wayne’s very first Young Money endeavor, Sqad Up. That group, however, has long since disbanded, leaving Gutta still holding the inside of Wayne’s pocket, Supe and Young Yo missing in action, and Kidd Kidd finally making power moves on his own. This New Kidd On The Block tape contains brand new material as well as a bunch of songs featuring both Wayne and Drake, like the original version of “Forever.” The three wrote together regularly before Kidd Kidd parted ways with the label earlier this year and this coming-out-party of a mixtape is as good a place as any to showcase the rest of the songs his scene-stealing verses will probably just get edited out of. Check out Kidd Kidd airing out Mario’s “Break Up” instrumental and download New Kidd On The Block below.

Anybody who thinks Lil Wayne doesn’t have soul needs to check themselves. This dude just taps into his passion pit and lets loose. Granted, it usually comes out when he is talking about punany, but the public record shows that Weezy is one fertile dude. In this one he also addresses himself (as “Self”). Might be a first for him, might not, but it’s office consensus that if we want to find out we will have to go through about 96,000 tracks and we don’t have time for that right now (got a magazine to put out and Lil Wayne’s babies to feed!), so if you know the answer, please tell us in the comments.

Freeload: Who Is Kidd Kidd?
- story THE FADER
Wayne is getting a reputation for collecting talented rappers and then kind of just forgetting about them. We’re sincerely hoping the Kidd Kidd—who we stumbled upon in a couple of songs leaked late last week—won’t be the latest of which. Kidd Kidd was at one time one fourth of Wayne’s old Sqad Up crew, but these new songs bring up a whole slew of questions other than the whereabouts of Gudda, Supe and Young Yo: Is there a Sqad Up reunion on the horizon? Is Kidd Kidd the most uncreative rap name ever? The closest thing he has to a MySpace page is the old Sqad Up page, but the bright side to that is that now we have an excuse to link this old Sqad Up freestyle where a considerably younger Kidd, then known as Nutt the Kidd, easily outshines all of Sqad Up until around the two minute mark where Wayne actually outshines the sun.
