Freeload: Ryan Peters of Ladyhawk Makes Mixtapes

This shouldn’t work at all but Ryan Peters, drummer of Ladyhawk has made two mixes of slowed jams, which were just posted on the Ladyhawk blog. Not so much chopped and more just screwed, even the uptempo, positive songs make us feel like we’ve been wading through hot tar all day. Positive times! No but for real this is awesome.

Freeload: Ladyhawke, “My Delirium (Fan Death Remix)”

When you pick up the next issue of The FADER you will see a Gen F on Vancouver’s death disco duo Fan Death—comprised of Dandilion Wind Opaine and Marta Jaciubek-McKeever— whose single “Veronica’s Veil” has been a hit on our Friday radio show of late. They’ve turned Ladyhawke’s originally pretty poppy jawn (video above) into a total Moroder nightmare, and we are recommending it as a soundtrack for watching the Dow plummet… makes it feel more romantic.

Freeload: Ladyhawk’s Rainy Days Mixtape

Fresh off barfing all over Europe, FADER favorites Ladyhawk turned in a fine mix for the few soggy days the band spent in hometown Vancouver before heading back out on a Canadian tour last week. It’s kind of cloudy today in New York, so we are only half feeling it. Just kidding, dudes, it’s an internet classic!

You can get the tour dates and tracklist over on the When You Awake blog and, if you haven’t already, make sure to read our story on the band from FADER Number 53.

Ladyhawk’s European Vacation: Ladyhawk Barfs All Over The World, Part Four

When we first heard that the bros in Ladyhawk were going on a massive European tour we were like Oh weird, and then we were like, This is awesome, so we got them on the phone (we emailed them) and asked if they wanted to blog their thoughts on the tour for us. Lead singer/guitarist Duffy Driediger cautiously said “sure,” and away we went. After the jump read the fourth installment from Ladyhawk’s first ever European tour, and stay tuned for another installment every day until we run out.

FADER 53: Ladyhawk Feature

Our love of Ladyhawk—the most American sounding Canadian band working today—is well documented in the various forms of media we inhabit, but the hugest bummer of all the bummers is that Europe has never gotten a chance to experience the band live on a real life stage. Ladyhawk are coming to you London and Dublin and Groningen and Utrecht and other places (like the non European city of Los Angeles), go see them and buy them beers. Tour dates are below, and then when you are done looking at those, read Sam Hockley-Smith’s feature on the band from F53.

Video: Ladyhawk Double Header

We spent two nights in a row seeing Ladyhawk last weekend (where’s the graph Kuo?). They were good at Mercury Lounge and awesome at Union Hall. The hugest bummer about Ladyhawk is when you go to see them and there aren’t as many people there as you’d imagined and everyone walks around saying Why aren’t there more people here? And then they get on stage and totally shred, and you feel worse because so many people are missing out. But the best thing about Ladyhawk is that, when they are on, they can make brothers and sisters out of strangers. In fact, by the end of the extra-long set of Ladyhawk classics and even a couple new songs, we found ourselves in a weird group bro-down with the rest of the audience and then we bought a t-shirt and some Hawk shot glasses. Check out a video by Joe Angerone of their most recent single, “I Don’t Always Know What You’re Saying” from their Union Hall performance above.
