About a month ago, Lil Brod plucked our heartstrings good with “Hold On,” so it’s nice to hear that things are looking up for him. Linking up with Big Maine and Collard Green, possibly the most country ass rap names in the history of recorded hip hop, Brod made a self-congratulatory anthem that somehow avoids the pitfalls of so many other uninspired swag salesmen. We can see it just as much as he spins it. Maybe, that’s what we love about him?

By now we’ve learned to trust DJ Burn One’s seasoned ear to the point that not even a name like
Lil Brod would dissuade us from checking out what he’s championing. Right before the weekend, Burn One posted Lil Brod’s “Hold On,” which, with its acoustic strings and inspirational posturing, was just what the doctor ordered in the wake of losing a piece of music itself.
