Metronomy, “Not Made For Love (Alalal Remix)” MP3

We still play Sinden’s remix of “A Thing For You” regularly, so when this new Alalal remix of Metronomy’s latest single came through, we made sure to give it a listen. As was the case with the former, the latter takes what was a mellow little electro-pop song and turns it into something much more fitting for your Bikram Jazzercycle class—nothing for the high revolution middle, more like the mid-tempo warm-up or cool down. We, on the other hand, will listen to it while sipping Monday mimosas and toasting to the end of the recession and this last official full day of the most dubious summer in recent memory. Make sure to check out Metronomy on tour with the Fool’s Gold fellows (the band not the label) in October. Dates after the jump.

Metronomy, “Not Made For Love” (Joakim Remix) MP3

The synths on this song sound like digital farts. It’s unavoidable, so let’s get that out of the way. Okay, so now let’s talk about how this makes you do that dance where you are like an eagle or an airplane. Not really a dance, just kind of a gimpy twirl. Metronomy, who lend themselves easily and happily to remix, are here flattened and relaxed by Joakim who, honestly, seems like he might be a bit of a goober. Not in a bad way, but his MySpace address is “myspace.com/jimibazzouka” and there is no way he doesn’t know half his song sounds like bad gas. So maybe we’ll go with “playful” instead of “goober,” because if you’re going to be a trickster it’s better to be a French discomeister trickster than some asshole in a flash mob.

Freeload: Metronomy, “A Thing For Me (Sinden Remix)”

After posting the video for Metronomy’s new single last week, we proceeded to play the actual song about a thousand times over the following three days, including once last Friday on our radio show. And now we got this Sinden refix that is just different enough to make us freak but not so much that we want to stop listening to the original. In fact, this has become Sinden’s new shit: whipping already awesome songs like “Township Funk” or Esser’s “Work It Out” into the best possible shape. He’s like Tony Little for the club in that way.

We must be getting old because we can’t imagine how Metronomy could possibly afford a video this elaborate. Then again, our 9-year-old nephew’s Christmas list was on PowerPoint this year. Time is moving too fast!

Directed by Megaforce for the band’s latest single [Sinden remix here].
