In our newest issue—available on paper or magic PDF paper—we chose Micachu & The Shapes to represent cover icon David Byrne’s tendency to be in the thick of things yet totally out of it. Cool, yet not cool. Micachu is right in the middle of the UK pop scene but is nowhere near anyone else, as you can hear on this cover of Toddla T’s “Backchatter” with Miss Bienek. Micachu will be playing Vice’s gigantic UK festival Stag & Dagger this Thursday at the London venue, and subsequent days will host every other band we’ve liked over the last year or so. So, go buckwild on free songs from a few of our favorites from the lineup and pick up Stag & Dagger tickets here.

Are you sick of hearing about what we did in Texas yet? No? Great! Because we are now going to tell you about how we saw Mika Miko at this crappy bar and No Age and Popo were there and we were pretty sure it was the first time 10 people who shred that awesomely have been that close to each other without some kind of explosion or skate ramp present. There could’ve been a skate ramp in the bar though because it was mostly empty, which means most people in Austin that night were totally boring assholes. Mika Miko played “I Got A Lot” and that’s when we snapped this photo with our phone. HD forever people. Anyway, it’s one of our favorite songs of theirs and it’ll be on their album We Be Xuxa, out May 5th on PPM.

It is definitely not your imagination that the above video has more than a few similarities to the No Age video we posted yesterday. Both videos are directed by Mika Miko’s Jennifer Clavin in sorta grainy b&w, and both come from PPM’s new DVD New Video Works featuring “Wild Bore,” “Goat Hurt” and a whole bunch more. If you’re also anticipating bikes in this one, just stop right there because there are no bikes. There is a lot of jumping though, and it’s all in front of a garage. It’s not the same, but who would want the same thing twice? No one. Exactly.
LA: Being True

UNDFTD on La Brea is hosting a photo event tonight celebrating the Nike Dunk or something crazy like that. It’s called Being True and features images inspired by that phrase from mega brohomié Jason Nocito and former FADER contributors Angela Boatwright and Kenneth Capello, along with basically every hot shit youth culture photographer of the last decade, all of which are listed on the flyer after the jump. The show was curated by Emma Reeves and Aaron Rose and Mika Miko is jamming it out. Get there early though because UNDFTD is not used to tons of dudes waiting in a line on the sidewalk.
