Premiere: Jokers of the Scene + Acid Girls, Bright Black Magick Mix MP3

We got totally shafted out of seeing Jokers of the Scene and Acid Girls play in NYC this past weekend—something about a gigantic music festival sucking up all our free time? But at least we have this sweet mix to go by, wherein the respective man-duos mix and match each others’ tracks and remixes (including some you-ain’t-heard-it-yet exclusives!) into a burbling brew of super-smart, outré party knockers that fully warrant that extra “K” in “Magick.” The pulses and synths overflow like a boiling brew coming from a coven’s rave cauldron and, appropriately, these dudes are playing at a RACETRACK in British Columbia on Halloween. Spirits will be raised—maybe the spirits of purebred horses? They’ve got a few more West Coast shows coming, too. Check the tracklist and tour dates after the jump.

Double L & LP, “Home For Carnival 5″ Mixtape

There are about seven months til Trini Carnival 2010, and two months before the gigantor Carnival parade takes over Brooklyn, so that gives you enough time to absorb any songs you might not recognize on this super-comprehensive mix of 55 summer soca tracks dropped over the past year from every island in the Caribbean. G13 Sound International, aka Double L & LP, were pretty thorough in putting this together, spanning perennial faves like Machel Montano and Destra Garcia to slightly less renowned but equally terrific performers like Zoelah. (Full tracklist here.) This mixtape is the most seasonally appropriate thing we’ve heard since maybe Saturday at least, let’s get excited!

Total Freedom & Nguzunguzu, “Wildness (Club Vortex Mixtape)”

Club Vortex is a monthly held at Glasslands in NY where all manner of outré/vanguard worldwide dance musics are played, and prior to each episode the guest DJs make a mixtape. The next installment is Kingdom’s b-day, FADER fave Maluca is performing live (always a rad time) and guest DJs Total Freedom and Nguzunguzu from Los Angeles are bringing the vibe of their Wilderness party to the Brooklyn warehouse setting, which according to this mixtape may include the Keri Hilson vox from “Swag On” over some kind of organic sounding triple-syncopated kinda-ragga rhythms, a possible Bollywood track blended with maybe the song from the “Natasha!” scene in Party Girl, Nicki Minaj “Go Hard” with a total BK-style drumline backing track, and copious drops filtered through a witness-protection-program vocal converter. This is all speculation, not actual scientific tracklistage, but the tape is hot and when you go to the party this Friday, July 10th (details here), you will not be hearing anything boring, played, wack or 100% identifiable. Happy B-day Kingdom!

Freeload: A Sad Yet Awesome Mixtape by Telepathe

Considering our super early love for Telepathe it’s not that surprising that they are influenced by some of the some of the exact same artists we spend much of our waking hours listening to. From Bone Thugs to Salem to early Juvenile to that one really depressing Bloc Party remix by Burial, THE PARTY JAMS ARE ALL HERE. Depending on your tolerance for sad yet awesome music, this is a good indicator of what the band is all about and also a perfect warmup for the actual totally legit release of Telepathe’s awesome Dance Mother, out April 14th on IAMSOUND. There also other awesome non-depressing songs on here, so you don’t need to worry about feeling all sad on a Thursday. Tracklist after the jump.

Freeload: Diamond, Ms. Boojhetto: Bitch Musik v. 2 the Mixtape

We were totally walking to Sake Bar in Manhattan and listening to this mixtape when we realized, at one point on Bitch Musik, former Crime Mob heavyweight Diamond proclaims herself “the best thing poppin’ since Freaknik in ‘93,” a pure Atlanta reference for a mixtape that is 100% THA A, from its aggy fight tracks (”Bitches Ain’t Shit,” “Run Up Get Dun Up,” “Beat Dem Charges Like Rocky”) down to its guests (Shawty Redd! Killer Mike!). It was 14 degrees outside at the time and all we could think about was if we were Diamond we would probably be at some ill Atlanta house party wearing pum pum shorts and keeping our pinkie prone as we sipped chilled Patron from a crystal glass, instead of wrapped in six layers of puffy jacket and wishing we had a jeep with a subwoofer so we could crank this tape for all of NYC to enjoy.

Freeload: Four Color Zack, Dream, A Little Dream Mixtape

We really don’t need a reminder that The-Dream is the most amazing songwriter because we think about it approximately every 45 seconds, and/or whenever “Single Ladies” comes on, whichever comes first. But Seattle’s finest Four Color Zack did us all a favor and not only made a best of The-Dream mixtape, but also imbued it with a photoshopped cover after our own hearts. He also closed it out with “Shawty is the Shit” which still sounds warm and forever-able as our first kiss, no matter how many times we listen to it (iTunes says 9,000,473).

Exclusive Freeload: Heavy Manners’ Can’t Frighten Mixtape featuring Demarco

We are stumped as to what we should be for Halloween. “Zombie Susan Sontag” is a perennial fave. Other options include a Be Kind Rewind Ghostbuster, Sylar from Heroes (monobrow, unlimited powers) or Beard Papa. We will probably just end up squirting fake blood all over our face and, when asked, cryptically call ourselves “The Aftermath.” So maybe we shouldn’t wait until the last minute every year? At least we will have a dope soundtrack for the party thanks to Heavy Manners, who spotted us this hot all-dancehall mixtape featuring Demarco, who we featured in FADER 53. For real though, the Heavy Manners folx (and mixer Dasheye of Tribe of Kings) couldn’t have done a better job; this tracklist reads like our musical dream date, from Mavado to Serani to Los Bros Marley, Busy Signal and even Jamaican quiet storm Tarrus Riley. So maybe we should dress up as this mixtape? Tracklist down under.
