Photo: The Levi’s®/FADER Fort Day 4 by John Francis Peters

Since our live cameras were always pointed directly at the stage, we sent our photographers out to capture the ambiance of The Levi’s®/FADER Fort. Here is the final selection of highlights from the last day of The Fort (unless we decide to put more up), as photographed by
John Francis Peters. View the photo set in full size here.

FADER TV: Janelle Monae, “Many Moons” (Live at The Levi’s®/FADER Fort)

Around the time we were thinking, Wow, Austin could really use some more Afrofuturism in its life, the lightning-like phenom Janelle Monae took the stage at The Levi’s®/FADER Fort
and crushed “Many Moons.” Don’t sleep on her guitarist, whose stage name is Kellindo, but who we refer to as Captain Shreddington. Keep watching for more Fort gems!

This is it — the final day of The Levi’s®/FADER Fort in Austin, Texas. You might think we’d be exhausted by now, and you would be correct. Live: NY Times Reviews Wavves. Should We Feel Young or Old?

Because we are actually fifteen (PSATs suuuuckkkk), it’s still pretty weird when we see things we like show up in the mainstream media. In today’s New York Times, there is a review of Saturday night’s Wavves show, all official with first and last names, times and places, feelings and thoughts. Being the paper of record, there is a heft and responsibility to being the one to tunnel the underground into the mainstream, and it is with a hefty burden and humorous heart that Jon Caramanica translates for our parents. But, you know, we were at that show, too. Did he get it right? We saw Caramanica: he was totally wearing his button-down around his shoulders like a Cape Cod prep! He’s really tall and he was standing close to the stage; did he block views? The needs of many Arts and Leisure readers versus the needs of one short person behind him? He totally made a joke that was just as funny (if not less funny) than one of our jokes. He talked to our friends and left without saying goodbye! (Jon, we saw you at McDonald’s from a taxi!) Are we the NY Times? We totally watched from the same angle, we saw what he saw and thus what you see if you are show-going vicariously. Thus, are you the NY Times, too? Will Wavves remain submerged or will the Grey Lady make him float? Our annotated review of Caramanica’s review is after the jump.

Live: Animal Collective Makes FADER Think Things and Feel Feelings + “My Girls” Video

Last night at nine o’clock our office was talking about Twitter. Some of us like it, some of us don’t. We have Twitterers and non-Twitterers amongst us, though it is undisputed that the art of “tweeter” has entered our collective lexicon. Non-Twitter user Matthew Schnipper attended last night’s Animal Collective concert at the Grand Ballroom and decided to try out this Twitter business via text message to an unfortunate colleague. His collected tweets and some non-Twittered thoughts are after the jump. And if you are fiending for some more concrete Animal Collective internet business, you can watch their new video for totally badass major steamrolling jam, “My Girls” (via Pitchfork) and download the bootleg of the show at nyctaper as soon as their server recovers from the nerdpocalypse that shut it down.

Live: Nas, N*E*R*D + Others At The Smirnoff Experience New York

A couple nights ago we hit up the New York edition of the Smirnoff Experience featuring Nas, N*E*R*D, Dizzee Rascal, Spank Rock, and somewhat unexpectedly, Grandmaster Flash. Even though Nas didn’t get on stage until around 1:30 in the morning, we were plied with the free drinks and crowd-wowing performances from N*E*R*D and Spank Rock. By the time Nas hit the stage (along with Kelis, subbing in for Lauryn Hill on “If I Ruled The World”), it was clear that—free drinks or not—we made the right choice in coming out to the event.

FADER/Boosted Pool Party Day 4

Featuring Staccato, Guns & Bombs, Dan Oh, Gaslamp Killer and Devlin & Darko, we went out in style, enjoying the last of the intense heatwaves and hitting the pool along with all the other party attendants. Hit the jump to check out a couple more pictures.

FADER/Boosted Pool Party Day 3

Whooaaaaa dudddessss! It is like 101 degrees out, and we’re pretty much in heatstroke city right now. Lucky for us, day 3 of the FADER/Boosted pool party (thanks to Heineken, Belvedere, Black Swan and saké2me) featured some of our favorite DJs including XXXchange killing it as usual (and playing Can!), Flosstradamus playing the most necessary set of ’90s pool party jams, LA Riots’ electro heavy set and FADER homie Nick Catchdubs busting out like every rap song we forgot we loved. Chek out a couple more pictures after the jump, and then come back later on for coverage from day two of Coachella.
