Picturebox Does More Awesome Stuff

Judging from previous blog posts and stories in our very own magazine, FADER and Picturebox are joined in some sort of secret underground cabal where we write about every move the company makes. Not so! In fact, the reality is that we ride for dudes that do awesome shit, and Picturebox consistently does awesome shit. This time around they’re combatting the evil recession by seriously hooking their customers up. This November 2009 and February 2010 respectively the publisher is releasing the third volume of CF’s amazing graphic novel Powr Mastrs, which involves some of the most detailed, thought out world building we’ve witnessed like ever, as well as Brian Chippendale’s SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY PAGE epic If ‘n Oof, a “sprawling, hilarious tale of two pals wandering through a desolate, hostile landscape.” To sweeten the deal, if you pre-order both books now you’ll get silkscreen prints from both artists. There are also a bunch more deals surrounding these books here and here. SOLD!

The PictureBox Gallery

Now this is a power move! Smack in the middle of the recession our dudes at PictureBox have opened the PictureBox Gallery, selling original works from some of the superstars they’ve published over the years, including stuff from Yuichi Yokoyama, Ben Jones, and—why not?!—an original and super rare Jack Kirby piece. You’re not going to find this stuff anywhere else (except on the walls of our living rooms when we buy it all) so get browsing.

Yuichi Yokoyama’s Travel

As New Yorkers, we feel like we’re a pretty good authority on the ins-and-outs of public transportation, which is why Yuichi Yokoyama’s new book Travel piqued our interest. The book follows the train ride of three men as they silently walk through the cars and are “confronted with the vehicle’s architecture.” We don’t know what that means, but we imagine it’s going to be more than three dudes staring at poles and seats. Travel is Yokoyama’s study of the surreal nature of cramming into a moving box with hundreds of people every day, and it will either cast our morning commute into a new light or make us scared of trains forever. The book is available now from Picturebox. Click here to order and check out a few sample pages.

Picturebox Real Life Store

Picturebox is the kind of company that we will consistently check for because basically everything they put out is totally awesome. Thankfully, they’ve decided to open a store where you can spend lots of money on really colorful things. The store officially opens tomorrow (March 21st), and from now on is only open on the weekend, which we are totally into. Hit them up at 121 3rd street in BK.
