Stream: The Dead Weather, Horehound LP
- story Peter Macia
In our current summer music issue, we concocted a line graph of supergroups gone wrong, and suggested The Dead Weather, comprised of Jack White (White Stripes), Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs), might be an exception to the rule. We didn’t base this solely on their collective hair, but on their new album Horehound, out July 14th, which, contrary to the complacent non-jams on most supergroup albums, makes it sound like being a gigantic rock star is the most aggravating job in the world. We know for a fact that manual labor is more aggravating, but Horehound is still awesome. Hear it right now in its entirety for 24 hours on The Internet.

ATL: Southern Queens
- story THE FADER
It may have been a couple dozen issues since we put Josh Homme on the cover of this magazine but we continue to jam Queens whenever we decide to lift weights (coffee cups), drive hella fast (the F train) or cruise babes (shop for pants). In fact, if it weren’t for the beautiful 55-degree rain in New York City right now, we would totally bounce down to sunny Atlanta for QOTSA’s headlining slot at the Southern Comfort Music Experience at Centennial Park tomorrow. It’s first one this year, and the next one, June 28th in Denver, is Gnarls Barkley, with more headliners and events to be announced later.

The sticker pretty much tells the story, but we thought we’d keep you on the up and up and let you know that first pressings of the rare Queens Of The Stone Age debut CD are now in stores courtesy of Josh Homme’s RekordsRekords label.
Though now that we copped this one, the number available is down to 7,999 at the most.

SXSW Day 2 Wrap-Up
- story THE FADER
So yeah, there’s a really fucking good reason we put Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age on our cover: as far as live shows are concerned, QOTSA completely OWN. Seriously though, they blazed through a “secret” show at this airplane hangar, kicking things off with “No One Knows” (”Fuck the ’80s, we’re Queens of the Stone Age. BOWN DOWNT DOWNT DA DOWNT, BOWNT DOWNT DOWNT DA DOWNT…”) and then they rolled right through the rest of their new LP – and a personal fave from the older jammies, “Monster In Your Parasol.” Crazily potent, fun-ass rock and roll.
The Queens party was filled with drunk industry dorks (hey, we were there, and were definitely twisted – does that make us industry dorks too?) but QOTSA turned it out, and when our man Diplo went on to DJ right after, it got even iller – shout to DJ Chill as the impromptu emcee. “Is Texas in the house?!” More pics from our evening and snarkity snark snark after the jump.
