Style: Pleet TV
- story THE FADER
From what we can tell from the fashion internets, regular 2D lookbooks are officially for dweebs. First came performance artist Kalup Linzy’s dragtastic performance of “Sampled and Left Ova,” an Oscar-worthy interpretation of Proenza Schouler’s resort collection and now Samantha Pleet launches Pleet TV with We Make It Good TV (who recently put a video out from the FADER Fort in Texas) for her holiday 2009 line. The show is what you would expect from the Pleet universe: champagne, a mean laugh track and lots of kooky romper-clad ladies climbing out of treasure chests doing impromptu Cher impressions. Matter of fact, if Wayne’s World had a 2009 remake, we’re pretty sure Tia Carrere could rock a Sam Pleet romper with just the right amount of divatude.
Style: Grey Gardens
- story THE FADER
While we were busy ho-humming through the crowds of Bryant Park last week our online style contributor Alpha Vomero got the chance to hit up some of the more indie favorites around town: Bodkin, Samantha Pleet and 2009 Ecco Domani winner Corpus. Amongst the women’s looks there seemed to be a quite obvious gray/blue theme throughout, capitalizing on last week’s fashion buzz that collections were taking the recession mood literally with dark tones and armor-like hardware. Despite the darker mood of the three collections, they all maintained a whimsical feel in texture and fabric, using lightweight and silky blends to make even the most fierce recessionista just a little bit softer.
FADER TV: Behind the Scenes of Samantha Pleet Spring 09
- story THE FADER
Samantha and Patrick Pleet have something of a penchant for cinema, so this season they left all runways to the wayside and made a short film for their Spring ‘09 collection. The couple gave us a wee peek behind the scenes of their fashion movie in Brooklyn a couple of weeks ago, and we even spotted Chris Bear of Grizzly Bear on set, playing model and looking casually spiffy in next season Patrick Pleet outfits. The awesome all-white set was designed by Patrick himself and actually reminded us a little of cult ’60s French movie L’année dernière à Marienbad. We caught up with Mr and Mrs Pleet at their swanky new loft in Greenpoint to get the scoop on the new collection and the video they created with director Tom Hines (smashing bowls in suits, puppeteering in geometric rompers, etc) which premieres on Youtube today, and Pleet Street Journal later this month.
Stylee Fridays: Samantha Pleet And Fremont
- story THE FADER
This post was initially supposed to be a pick of all the awesome things we saw at the Archetype Showroom fall preview. But honestly there was just too much awesomeness to squish in to one post. For sanity’s sake I’ve narrowed it down to two of our favorite labels: Fremont and Samantha Pleet. That’s Devin and Brittany who split men/womens designing duties on Fremont up top.
